11-BLADE RESHARPENING INSTRUCTIONS
The precision of the cutting blades is essential for the proper operation of the Cutter; therefore blades
require special care and must be resharpened as described bellow:
1.- The blades sharpening operation must be done only by skilled workers.
2.- The blades must be sharpened on the cutting side only, with a water-cooled griding stone and in such a
way that the original angle is not affected (see drawing).
3.- When sharpening a set of blades, you must give them the same shape and the same weight, and this
taking into account a weight tolerance of approx. 5 gr. If this rule is not observed, vibrations can appear on
the machine and could deteriorate the bearings.
4.- The cutting surface must always be sharpened lengthwise to prevent grooves appearence on the
blades. The sharpening process must be finished by a sanding, with a granulated tape No. 180, then after
with a granulated tape No. 320.
5.- To obtain a scratch-free and perfectly polished edge, polish the blade cutting edge very softly with a
polishing brush and a polishing paste.
6.- During the sharpening process, the blade in contact with the grinding stone, should never heat up,
otherwise, tensions points could develop in the blade and brake it. Overheating is easy to detect, because
the colour of the steel changes and this accordingly to the temperature.
7.- Remove the burrs and clean the blade with a fine honing stone.
8.- When the sharpening operation is finished, the whole blade should be cleaned.
9.- The wear and tear limit of the blade cutting edge depend on the way the Cutter is used and the
composition of the material which is being processed. The cutting edge must always be kept in a good
condition.
