Assembly
2
Support the cleaned motorcycle on the frame so that the front wheel is rai-
sed. Remove the front wheel, headlamp mask, handlebar and brake caliper
bracket. Remove the fork and the upper triple clamp.
WHEN THE UPPER TRIPLE CLAMP IS REMOVED, IT IS VERY EASY FOR THE FORK
TO DIP DOWN.
Ensure that lines are not kinked. Pull off the O-ring, protective ring and bearing.
Pull the lower triple clamp off toward the bottom together with the steering
stem. Ensure that dirt does not get into the steering head.
Grease the bearing [6] of the new triple clamp (e.g. with Motorex Long Therm
2000), reassemble the vehicle with the triple clamp in reverse order and adjust
the steering head bearing. Use tightening torques according to the torque list
in the owner's manual.

Check the steering head bearing and adjust
The steering head bearing should be checked regularly for play. To check it,
support the motorcycle on the frame so that the front wheel is raised. Attempt
to move the fork to and fro. There should be no detectable play. To adjust,
loosen the 5 clamp screws [1] of the upper triple clamp and tighten the stee-
ring head screw [2] further until there is no more play. Never tighten the stee-
ring head screw all the way as this will damage the bearings. Using a plastic
hammer, strike the upper triple clamp lightly to prevent strain and tighten
the 5 clamp screws to 15 Nm.

IF THE STEERING HEAD BEARING IS NOT FREE OF PLAY, THIS RESULTS IN POOR
RIDING STABILITY. THE MOTORCYCLE MAY GO OUT OF CONTROL.
IF THE MOTORCYCLE IS OPERATED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS WITH PLAY IN THE
STEERING HEAD BEARING, THE BEARING AND CONSEQUENTLY THE BEARING
SEATS IN THE FRAME WILL BE DESTROYED.
The steering head bearings should be greased at least once a year (e.g. with
Motorex Long Therm 2000).
