1.5 PRECAUTIONS
• Do not use a damaged or disassembled ProTrach XtraCare as this may cause
aspiration of small parts.
• Do not use a soiled or contaminated device as this may cause an infection.
• Do not wash and re-use the HME. Washing the HME impairs the filtering-
and HME functions.
• Do not use the device beyond 24 hours after initial use. This can increase the
risk for infection due to bacterial colonization.
• Do not administer medicated nebulizer treatment over the device since the
medication can become deposited in the device.
• Do not use humidifiers or heated humidified oxygen over the device since
the HME will become too wet.
2. Instructions for use
The device is for single use and must be replaced at least every 24 hours, or
more often as needed (e.g. if clogged by mucus or wet).
To use ProTrach XtraCare, gently attach the device to the tube using a clockwise
twisting motion (Fig. 1). To remove the device from the tracheostomy tube,
gently pull the device using a clockwise twisting motion. Always follow medical
practice and national requirements regarding biohazard when disposing of a
used medical device.

ProTrach O
Adaptor is an accessory for patients requiring supplemental

oxygen. The adaptor connects oxygen tubing of 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) diameter
to the oxygen port. CAUTION: The adaptor is for single use and should be
replaced when it becomes dirty, contaminated or shows any signs of damage.

Attach the oxygen tubing to the adaptor as shown in Fig. 3. Make sure the oxygen
tube goes beyond the conical edge of the connector (Fig. 3).
