RULES OF PLAY
Contents
1 board, 36 Rolit® balls, rules.
For 2 to 4 players aged 4 and up.
Playing time: 15 minutes.
Object of the game
Trap your opponents' Rolit® balls and capture them by rolling them to match your own colour. The winner is the player
whose colour appears most frequently on the board at the end of the game!
SETUP
Place the board on the table.
There are four colours to choose from: red for the monkey, yellow for the lion, grey for the elephant and green for the
crocodile. Each player chooses a colour and sits at the side of the board matching their colour (shown by the marker at
the side of the board).
For a game with 2 players: choose between red and green.
With 3 players: choose between red, yellow and green.
With 4 players: choose between, red, yellow, green and grey.
If you are playing on your own, play red and grey in alternate turns.
HOW TO PLAY
Start
Place 4 Rolit® balls in the board (as shown in illustration 1). This starting position with 4 balls in 4 colours is always the
same whatever the number of players. The other balls stay in the box for now. The youngest player makes the first move
and play continues in a clockwise direction.
When it's your turn
Take one Rolit® ball out of the box and place it on the board with your own colour upwards. You must trap one (or more)
balls belonging to another player (illustration 2, red arrow) if you can. The trapped ball (illustration 2, yellow arrow) can
now be rolled to match your colour (illustration 3, yellow arrow). You have now captured that ball.
The other players now take turns, each placing (in their turn) one ball on the board always trying to trap one or more
opponents' balls and rolling them to match his or her own colour... Keep playing until all the balls in the box have
been played.
If your colour has
Don't panic! You can now place your Rolit® ball wherever you like, next to any ball of any colour that is already on the
'disappeared' from
board. You cannot trap, so you cannot capture any other in this turn, but who knows, you may soon get a chance to do so!
the board
The winner
The game is over when all the Rolit® balls have been played onto the board. The winner is the player that has the most
of their colour on the board!
New game
Place the box lid over the board and turn the board and lid over, so that all the Rolit® balls fall into the box lid. Each
player chooses a different colour from that played in the previous round. Sit in your new position and play again!

FURTHER EXPLANATION AND EXAMPLES
Trapping and capturing a ball
A ball is trapped only if it lies in a straight line between a ball already on the board and a new ball of the same colour
(see illustration 2, blue arrow). If two (or more) balls are trapped between a ball already on the board and a new ball of
the same colour, they are captured.
Captured balls (illustration 2, yellow arrow) are then rolled to match the captor's colour (see illustration 3, yellow arrow).
Note!
1. A new ball must always be played next to one that is already on the board.
2. Trapping and capturing a ball is compulsory – if you can trap a ball you must do so! If you place a piece without trap-
ping and another player notices, you must take your ball back and make the compulsory trapping move.
3. Trapping a ball only applies when a new ball traps another already on the board. Other accidental trapping actions
which occur during play (by other players or by rolling) are not valid.
Example of balls trapping others
Look at illustrations 4 and 5. Here two balls are trapped by the new red ball (illustration 4, red arrow) and the next red
ball (illustration 4, green arrow). The trapped balls (illustration 4, yellow arrows) are now captured and rolled to match the
captor's colour (illustration 5, yellow arrows).
A ball can be trapped in any
Rolit® balls can be trapped horizontally, vertically and diagonally, but only in a straight line. Look at illustration 6: the red
direction
arrow points to the new yellow ball placed on the board, the white arrows mark all the trapped lines. In illustration 7 you
can see the results of this ingenious move. When you can trap and capture on more than one line, always try to choose
the best move (see Tips for parents). If you trap, capture and have completed your move, you must roll all the captured
balls to match your own colour.
TIPS FOR PARENTS
Writing down the scores
At the end of each round, write down who has won, with the number of points (= the number of balls in the winning
player's colour). The eventual winner is the player who has won the most rounds. If two players finish level, the winner is
the one with the most points.
Learning to think ahead
Rolit® is exciting and unpredictable – one clever move can transform the whole game! Sometimes when it seems you're
going to lose, playing that special move means you can still win!
Try to play in the corner spaces when you can. Pieces in the corners can not be switched to another colour.
