Note
We recommend that the installation be carried out with
the assistance of a second person.
Figure 1
1. Position the rear spoiler -1- in installation position on
the tailgate, as shown.
2. Align and centralise the rear spoiler -1- on the body
edges of the tailgate.
Note
Using adhesive tape, fi x the sides of the rear spoiler -1-
to prevent the spoiler moving.

1. Mark the installation position of the rear spoiler -1- at
several points on the tailgate using a pencil/marker.
2. Then remove the rear spoiler -1- again.
Note
Use a pencil/marker that does not damage the vehicle
paintwork and one where the marks can be washed off
after completion of assembly.

1. Paint the rear spoiler -1- according to the Volkswagen
repair instructions "Painting primed parts".

Note
New gas-filler struts with part number 5C5 827 550 C
must be used. This assures that the tailgate is held when
open.
Note
The tailgate must be supported when a gas-filled strut
is being removed. One gas-filled strut alone cannot
support an open tailgate.
WARNING
The spring clip -b- must not be levered completely out
of the ball socket, as it will otherwise be damaged.
The gas-fi lled strut -a- can spring out of the mounting,
causing damage or injury.
1. Open the tailgate and support it with a suitable
object or it can be held open by a second person.
2. Grasp under the spring clip -b- using a
screwdriver -c- and carefully lift the clip only until it
can be slid over the ball socket.
3. Pull the gas-fi lled strut -a- out of its upper and lower
mounting and remove it from the vehicle.
4. Press the new gas-fi lled strut -a- into its upper and
lower mounting until it engages audibly.
Note
The exchange of the left gas-filled strut is described. The
procedure for the right gas-filled strut is identical.

1. Degrease and clean the tailgate in the installation
area for the spoiler using the cleanser supplied in the
adhesive kit.

1. Lightly sand the adhesive surfaces -arrows- on the
under side of the rear spoiler -1- and degrease and
clean using the cleanser supplied in the adhesive kit.

Note
Only specifically approved and tested adhesives may be
used for each respective country.
• Adhesive kit: 000 071 785 A
1. Apply adhesive to adhesive surfaces -arrows-. Note
the following for this: apply a 7 mm adhesive bead to
the adhesive surfaces -a-, to achieve a 7 mm bead
shorten the nozzle supplied with the adhesive kit to
the second ring. Finally apply a 10 mm dia. adhesive
spot to adhesive surfaces -b-.

1. Align the rear spoiler -1- on the tailgate according to
the markings and position the spoiler in its installation
position (see fi gure 2).
2. Then forcefully press the rear spoiler -1- onto the
tailgate and fi x to the edges of the tailgate using
adhesive tape -see enlargements in fi gure-.
Note
Immediately remove excess adhesive with the aid of a
spatula and cleanser.

1. Fix the rear spoiler -1- to the rear window using at
least three strips of suitable adhesive tape, as shown.
Note
Depending on requirement, more than three strips of
adhesive tape may be used to secure the rear spoiler.
The adhesive tape must always be secured as a pressure
fixture.

1. Open the tailgate and secure the rear spoiler -1- to
the tailgate using at least four strips of suitable
adhesive tape, as shown.
2. Carefully close the tailgate and again check the
installation position of the spoiler.
Note
Depending on requirement, more than four strips of
adhesive tape may be used to secure the rear spoiler.

WARNING
The vehicle may not be moved for 12 hours. The tape
must not be removed during this period.
The rear spoiler must not exposed to mechanical stress
for at least 24 hours. We recommend that the vehicle
is not washed for at least 48 hours.
If the vehicle is to be moved, ensure that no stress/
loading in the form resting/leaning or supporting is
transferred to the rear spoiler.
