USE WITH A TEMPORARY (PREPARATORY) PROSTHESIS
WARNING: Only use the liner as part of a temporary (preparatory)
prosthesis for trans-tibial patients.
PRECAUTION: Monitor the performance of the liner. If there are changes
in performance, stop use of the liner and contact the practitioner.
Liner Size Selection for a Temporary (Preparatory) Prosthesis
Determine the correct liner size (see the section "Liner Size Selection").
Make sure the liner matrix covers 4 cm of bony structure. Do not allow
the matrix to extend higher than the fibula head.
PRECAUTION: If the liner is too tight, it can cause pistoning and/ or
numbness. If the liner is too loose, it can increase perspiration or let the
limb move. The two can cause blisters and rashes.
Trimming
Trim the liner according to user preference and to increase range of
motion. Use an Iceross Curvemaster or a similar tool to produce
a smooth and rounded edge, minimizing the risk of skin irritation and/or
the liner tearing.
PRECAUTION: do not cut the liner below the proximal trim-lines of the
socket. Excessive trimming may lead to discomfort and may reduce the
suction between the liner and limb and compromise suspension.
Locking suspension
If a lanyard suspension system is used, turn the connecting screw into
the distal attachment of the liner. Refer to the instructions for use of the
lanyard suspension system for the correct instructions.
If a locking pin is used, apply Loctite 410/411 or an equivalent compound
to the threads. Then tighten the attachment pin to the fixed distal
attachment. Össur recommends to torque to 4 Nm (3 ft lb). Refer to the
instructions for use of the attachment pin for the correct instructions.
WARNINGS:
– Do not use flangeless pins with locking liners. A flangeless pin
can cause damage to the distal attachment.
– If excessive movement or product wear is detected between the
attachment pin and the distal attachment at any time, the user
should be instructed to immediately discontinue use of the liner
and consult with the practitioner. Please follow these
recommendations to prevent health consequences.
Socket Fitting
Fit the socket to the user.
Follow the checklist to control the fit of the socket:
– The user can securely don socket without using lubricants
– Liner and inner wall of socket maintain full contact.
– Proximal fit is good.
– Minimized pistoning in the socket.
– If the user experiences insecurity or decreased contact with the
socket due to volume fluctuations, one or more Iceross Socks can
