Standard installation
For vehicles with OEM Tow Hook: Tow hook must be permanently removed for hitch installation.
Standard installation:
1.
Lower muffler (for standard model) or diesel canister (for EcoDiesel model) – Using exhaust removal pliers, lower muffler if required (standard model). Using 16mm socket, remove (2) 10mm
bolts from diesel canister (EcoDiesel model). Note: Be sure to support exhaust before removing rubber hangers.
2.
Install hitch – (a) Raise hitch onto the vehicle cross member at a 15° - 45° angle and align leftmost hole in hitch with existing hole in cross member. (b) Loosely install (1) M12 bolt ①, (1) 1/2" flat
washer ③, (1) 1/2" conical washer ②, and (1) M12 hex nuts ④ to hold hitch in place. (c) Using 18mm crowfoot wrench and open end wrench, install and secure all fasteners to the hitch, see
Figure 1. Note: Gently pull downward on diesel canister for extra clearance.
3.
Tighten all M12 CL8.8 fasteners with torque wrench to 68Lb.-Ft. (92N*M).
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
4.
Reinstall muffler or canister and bolts – If lowered in step 1.
Mopar off road bumper installation:
1.
Lower muffler – If required.
2.
Remove factory bolts and spacer plate – Using 18mm socket, remove (4) M12 flange head bolts from forward side of vehicle cross member. Remove the spacer plate located between the vehicle
cross member and the Mopar bumper. Return spacer plate to vehicle owner.
3.
Raise hitch into position – Raise hitch onto the vehicle cross member and align holes in hitch with existing holes in cross member.
4.
Install hitch – Using 18mm socket, reinstall (4) factory M12 flange head bolts through hitch and cross member and into existing weldnuts in Mopar bumper.
5.
Tighten all M12 CL10.9 fasteners with torque wrench to 92Lb.-Ft. (125N*M).
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
6.
Reinstall muffler – If lowered in step 1.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe
safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
