Before using the vacuum mattress, you should carefully read the instructions for use for all accessories that you plan to use with the device, such as belts, cervical collars
and spine boards. Strictly follow the local emergency service guidelines before placing the patient on the mattress.
Carefully assess the need for a cervical collar or other immobilization aids in addition to the necessary restraint belts.
Place the belts flat on the floor, spaced as far apart as you plan to apply them to the patient.
Place the mattress firmly on top of the belts, on a flat surface, away from sharp objects such as glass, sheet metal or anything else that could damage the fabric of the mattress.
If you have the Combimatt model, you can insert a spine board into the dedicated compartment to further stiffen the system.

APPLYING IMMOBILIZATION ACCESSORIES
It is essential to fit belts on the patient.
If the patient's condition requires and/or allows it, apply a cervical collar until an adequate degree of immobilization is achieved.
Make sure that the patient is correctly immobilized before moving him/her with the mattress.

11. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Spencer Italia S.r.l. declines all responsibility for any direct or indirect damage which is the consequence of improper use of the product and spare parts and/or in any
case of any repair carried out by a person other than the Manufacturer, who uses internal and external technicians authorised to do so; moreover, doing so will invalidate
the warranty.
• The operator must wear suitable personal protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles, etc. during all checking, maintenance and cleaning operations.
• Establish a maintenance schedule, periodic inspections and extend the average life span, if foreseen by the Manufacturer in the instructions for use, identifying a reference
person who meets the basic requirements set forth in the instructions for use.
• The frequency of inspections is determined by factors such as legal requirements, type of use, frequency of use, and environmental conditions during use and storage.
• Repairs of products manufactured by Spencer Italia S.r.l. must be carried out by the Manufacturer, who shall make use of specialised internal or external technicians
who, using original spare parts, shall provide quality repair service in strict compliance with the technical specifications indicated by the Manufacturer. Spencer Italia S.r.l.
Res-q-matt valve
Connect one side of the tube to the suction pump.
In QMX120, there is only one hose connector at the bottom of the pump.
The QMX125 has two hose connectors.
The one on the bottom side should be used as it is intended for vacuums and therefore suitable for use with vacuum mattresses.
The hose connector on the side of the pump is for inflation and therefore should not be used with vacuum mattresses.
The QMX109 model, which can be used for both inflating and creating vacuums, has the connections clearly marked on the pump.
On this model, the tube must be connected to the vacuum connection port.
Res-q-matt valve
If using the QMX120/125 pumps, place a foot inside the bottom pump support.
If using the QMX109 pump, place two feet on either side of the pump, above the dedicated supports.
Two operators mould the mattress to the patient's body and fasten the belts. While the two operators keep the mattress snug
against the patient, the third operator begins to create a vacuum in the mattress by repeatedly raising and lowering the pump
plunger until the mattress is rigid enough to properly immobilize the patient.
The mattress valve should be closed as soon as the necessary vacuum is achieved.
Delayed closing of the valve will result in rapid loss of vacuum in the mattress.
Re-tighten the belts around the patient in order to maintain an adequate level of immobilization.
Never use cranes, slings or other systems to lift the device.
Lifting is only permitted by hand and by an appropriate number of operators (minimum 4).
Operators must be positioned symmetrically and in such a way to allow safe, stable lifting of both the head and
foot sides of the spine board mattress.
If the 4 minimum operators foreseen (illustrated in red) is not sufficient to ensure the safety of operations,
two additional operators (illustrated in blue) must hold the device in the central area in order to distribute
the load as best as possible.
The maximum load on each operator must never exceed the maximum load permitted by work safety
regulations.
Open the mattress valve to allow air to pass through, thus making the mattress
mouldable.
Evenly distribute the filler material, thus avoiding localised accumulations which could
reduce the performance of the device.
The patient, who usually undergoes recovery procedures with a spinal board or pick-up
stretcher before being placed on the mattress, should be positioned in the centre of the
mattress to allow adequate immobilization. Once on the mattress, the spine board or
pick-up stretcher used for recovery can be removed.
During all operations, always maintain immobilization of the cervical spine, also using
a cervical collar if appropriate.
The other end of the tube should be connected to the previously opened mattress
valve.
Ensure that the tube is correctly attached to the valve fitting as well as the Res-q-matt
adapter.
