ADJUSTMENT AND OPERATION
The air spot welding cutter features adjustable cut depth limiting and automatic cutting bit advance.
Depth of cut is adjustable to allow the cutting bit to cut through only the upper steel panel of the spot
weld while underlying panels remain untouched. To do so:
1. Pull back the fork against spring pressure and observe the
distance between the end of the cutting bit and the end of the fork.
That is the depth of cut.
2. To lessen the depth of cut, rotate the serrated, colored sleeve
clockwise (when viewed from the cutting end of the tool) (Fig.1).
3. To increase the depth of cut, rotate the serrated, colored sleeve
counter-clockwise (when viewed from the cutting end of the tool)
(Fig.2).
4. Recheck the cutting depth dimension and readjust if necessary.
AUTOMATIC CUTTING BIT ADVANCE
The cutting bit automatically advances toward the spot weld as the trigger is depressed.
Work as described in the following steps when the back of the weld
point is accessible:
1. Place the fork to the front of the spot welded sheet and the backing
arm behind the spot welded sheet.
2. Press the trigger only partially, this will move the cutting bit outward
against the spot welded metal sheet without making any rotational
movement (Fig.3).
3. When pressing the trigger all the way, the cutting bit starts to rotate
and removes the welding point.
If the back of the weld point is not accessible, follow the steps below:
1. A locking ring is mounted at the head of the spot welding cutter,
the flaps of the locking ring hold the backing arm. For disassembly
there is a cutout in the backing arm.
2. Rotate the backing arm around the unit so that the cutout in the
backing arm is in line with the flaps of the locking ring. Then pull off
the backing arm from the device (fig. 4 & 5).
3. Press the fork to the front of the spot-welded metal sheet.
4. Press the trigger only partially. The cutter moves outwards against
the spot weld.
5. At this point, it is important to press continue the device or fork
firmly against the spot welded metal sheet.
6. When pressing the trigger all the way, the cutter will begin to rotate
and remove the spot weld.
