4. Flip food (chicken, hamburgers, etc.) once during the cooking process to shorten the needed
time. Large items like roasts must be turned over at least once.
5. Rearrange food, such as meatballs, halfway through the cooking process.

5. UTENSILS GUIDE

1. The ideal material for a microwaveable container is transparent to microwaves; it allows the
waves to pass through and heat the food.
2. Microwaves cannot penetrate metal, so metal utensils or dishes with metallic trim should
not be used.
3. Do not use recycled paper products for microwave cooking, as they may contain small metal
fragments which may cause sparks and/or fire.
4. Round/oval dishes are prefered to square/oblong ones, as food in corners tends to overcook.
5. Narrow strips of aluminum foil may be used to prevent overcooking of exposed areas. But
be careful do not use too much and keep a distance of 1 inch (2.54 cm) between the foil and the
cavity.
