The ALF must be opened and inspected by a trained,
competent person, authorised by the manufacturer
(ISC) at a minimum schedule of every 12 months.
The frequency of inspections can be increased to
reflect applicable industry guidance, local legislation
and intensity of use.
[C] ALF USE
1. The user must always be below the highest anchor
point
2. This device should be used with an anchor point/
system conforming to either EN 795, ANSI Z359
or any other recognized standard of Industry Best
Practice relating to its specific use, or a non­engi­
neered anchor point capable of withstanding the
appropriate loads. It is recommended that the
anchor point be above the user and the viability of
any installation should be verified by a suitably
qualified person
3. The rope can be a continuous loop with 2 knots
such that when one user has reached the top of
the ladder, the next user may attach to the knot at
the bottom of the ladder. Only one person may use
the system at any one time. ALF can be secured
at the top of the system or at the bottom [3]. ISC
recommend the use of RP066 pulley at the oppo­
site end of the system. When setting up an ALF
system in this way, ISC recommend a tension of
between 10 kg & 20 kg of force
4. Attachment knots (including connectors) should
be a maximum of 300 mm in length
5. The correct rope path must be followed when
threading the device
6. The user can be attached to one end of the rope,
whilst a second person holds the remainder of the
rope to take in the slack
7. Work as close to directly below the anchor point
as possible to avoid swing­fall injuries. The ALF
should be positioned so that the fall path is unob­
structed
8. The user must be secured to the system by the fall
arrest attachment point on a full body harness
9. Maximum user weight 140kg (308lb)
[D] ALF MISUSE
1. Do not use a sit style harness for fall arrest
2. Do not climb above the highest anchor point
3. Do not use if rope is threaded incorrectly
