Using your watch as a compass
In the Northern Hemisphere
1:
Hold the watch horizontally, laid flat, with hands facing up. The time displayed on the watch is of
no importance, as long as it is accurate.
2:
Point the hours hand (A) towards the sun.
3:
Halve the angle formed by the hours hand and the 12 (C) in order to determine which direction is
South (C). The opposite point indicates North (E). Turn the watch's bezel to adjust the S symbol
(South) to indicate which direction is South.
Note: Before midday, South is located to the left of the 12. However, after midday, South is located to the
right of the 12. For example, if it is exactly 5 p.m., South will be exactly halfway between the 2 and
the 3, while North will be exactly opposite, halfway between the 8 and the 9.
N.B. During the summer time period, the time displayed on the watch is offset by one hour in relation to so-
lar time. If this is the case, replace the 12 guide-mark with the 1 in order to determine North and South.
In the Southern Hemisphere
1:
Hold the watch horizontally, laid flat, with hands facing up. The time displayed on the watch is of
no importance, as long as it is accurate.
2:
Point the 12 (B) towards the sun.
3:
Halve the angle formed by the 12 (B) and the hours hand (A). The exact centre of this angle
indicates North (C), while the point exactly opposite this on the dial indicates South (E).
For example, if it is 9 a.m., North is indicated exactly halfway between the 10 and the 11, while the opposite
point exactly halfway between the 4 and the 5 indicates South. If the watch is set to the summer time period,
use the 1 rather than the 12 as the guide-mark, as explained for the Northern Hemisphere.
N.B. Before midday, South is located to the right of the 12. However, after midday, South is located to the
left of the 12.
