VI - MAINTENANCE
Before every procedure, check that all the
instruments are sterile and install a new sterile
irrigation line with the handpiece cord.
6. 1 UNIT AND ACCESSORIES
(not including handpieces and tips)
A preliminary maintenance procedure should be
carried out on the unit and its accessories every
time the device is to be used. This maintenance
procedure can be broken down into 3 phases:
• Cleaning (unit and accessories)
• Decontamination (unit and accessories)
• Sterilization (accessories)
Recommended maintenance procedure:
1) Clean and disinfect the unit and accessories
using a suitable product or with special
disinfectant wipes for dental applications.
Avoid using cleaning agents and disinfectants
containing inflammable substances.
2) Remove any fluid that might have penetrated
into
openings
decontamination.
3) Put the decontaminated accessories into the
sterilization box (Figure 1, #I).
Components made of different types of metal
should not be allowed to come into contact
with one another during sterilization (because
of the risk of damage if electrolytic couples
are formed).
4) Wrap the sterilization box in cloth or put it
into a sterilization pouch.
5) Sterilize in a Type B autoclave (18 minutes
steam-sterilization at 134°C and a pressure of
2 bar (200hPa).

6. 2 MAINTENANCE OF HANDPIECES AND TIPS
Refer to the User's Manual for the specific
piece of equipment.
During this procedure, tips should be taken off
the handpieces.
6. 3 TAKING THE PUMP APART
(basic maintenance)
P
pumps can be taken apart to facilitate
IEZOTOME
cleaning of internal components.
Proceed as follows:
1) Set the power supply switch (Figure 3, #6) to
"O".
2) Pull the mains cord out of its socket (Figure 3,
#4).
3) Position the lugs of the pump wrench (Figure
9, #1) under the claws of the pump cover
hinge (Figure 9, #2).
4) Push the pump wrench towards the pump
until it can advance no further.
5) Release the pump cover/pump cartridge
compartment unit (Figure 9, #3 and #4) by
of
gently lifting it upwards.
6) Remove the pump wrench (Figure , #1).
7) Remove the pump cartridge compartment
(Figure 9, #4) from the pump cover (Figure 9,
#3).
8) Clean the pump and components using a
suitable product, making sure that no fluids
run down the motor axle (getting fluid in the
motor may damage the device).
9) Put the pump cartridge compartment (Figure
9, #4) and the cover (Figure 9, #3) back
together.
10) Replace the unit on the pump, taking care to
introduce each of the three metal rods (on
the pump side) into the pump cartridge
compartment guides. A click will be heard
when they are in the correct position.
