6. On both sides of basic carrier bar (1) press quick-tightening
device (14) down, keep it held down and turn it to the left. Fold
quick-tightening device (14) upwards as fas as it will go and press
down red lever (13).
7. Tighten screws (12) with tool (5).
8. Fold down cover caps (11) on both sides and lock them with key (4).
9. Install rear basic carrier bar (2) in the same way.

WARNING
Check that all of the screws on the basic carrier bars are firmly
secured, and tighten them if necessary every time you fit the basic
carrier bars, before each journey and also when on a long journey.
Repeat these checks at regular intervals, regardless of road surface
conditions and at the latest after 1,550 miles (2,500 km) of
continuous use.
Do not apply lubricants to the screws of the basic carrier bars. The
screws could then loosen and the basic carrier bars could become
detached from your vehicle, including the load, and cause injury to
you and others and/or damage to property, including your own
vehicle.
Fitting attachments to the basic carrier bars

1. Unlock cover caps (11) on both sides with key (4) and fold them up.
2. Pull out cover strip (3), if fitted.
Important
Do not place loads on the cover caps when they are folded up. This may
damage the cover caps or cause them to break.
3. Push the attachments bracket into slot (17).
Further information can be found in the installation instructions of
the respective attachments to be fitted to the basic carrier bars.

Installing the cover strip
If no additional equipment is fitted to the basic carrier bars, cover
strips (3) should be fitted in order to reduce wind noise.
1. Cut cover strips (3) to size:
Basic carrier bar, front
Basic carrier bar, rear
2. Place cover strip (3) on basic carrier bars (1 and 2) and press it into
groove (17).
Removing
1. Unlock cover caps (11) on both sides with key (4) and fold them up.
2. On both sides of basic carrier bar (1), pull red lever (13) upwards.
Fold quick-tightening device (14) down and then turn it to the left.
3. Remove basic carrier bars (1) from the vehicle roof.
4. Close the cover caps completely.
5. On both sides of basic carrier bar (1) turn quick-tightening
device (14) to the left. Fold quick-tightening device (14) upwards as
far as it will go. Press red lever (13) down.
6. Fold down cover caps (11) on both sides and lock them with key (4).
Note
Store the basic carrier bars in a clean and safe place.
