• Do not use sites with low-velocity flows that create silt buildup in the invert or channel. Buildup of
silt near the sensor can inhibit the Doppler signal and cause inaccurate sensor readings and depth
measurements.
• Do not use sites with deep rapid flows where sensor installation would be difficult or dangerous.
• Do not use sites with high-velocity, low-depth flows. Splash-over and excessive turbulence around
the sensor can cause inaccurate data.
Strain relief for sensor cable
Attach the desiccant hub to the instrument to give strain relief to the sensor cable and the cable
connector. Refer to the figures for proper attachment.

Zero the sensor
The sensor is calibrated at the factory and is compensated for temperature.
The sensor must be zeroed during each installation and when moved from one flow meter or
sampler to another.
Zero the sensor for FL900 series flow meters
To zero the sensor when used with FL900 series flow meters, open the Flo-Ware software. Follow
the instructions in the Calibration Wizard for the AV9000 Area Velocity Analyzer Sensor.
Zero the sensor for Sigma samplers and flow meters
1. If necessary, install the InSight software, version 5.7 or higher, and start the program.
Note: Insight software can be downloaded from
compact disc from customer support.
2. From the InSight menu, select Remote Programming.
3. From the Real Time Operations list, select the level sensor.
4. Remove the probe from the liquid and place the sensor flat on the tabletop or floor with the
sensor (the plate with holes) face down.
5. Press OK on the dialog box when complete.
Note: The AV9000 analyzer includes a sensitive radio-frequency receiver capable of detecting very small
signals. When connected to the FL90x logger communications or auxiliary power ports, certain line-powered
equipment may inject noise that interferes with Doppler velocity measurements. Interference with
