5. Installation and commissioning
Danger!
• Only open the control unit and carry out maintenance work on the entire machine when the mains plug is disconnected!
• Work on the control unit, motor and electrical cables may only be carried out by a qualified electrician.
• The unit must be operated from a 230 V socket outlet with a protective earth contact. This must be fused with a B16 A circuit breaker (LS). In
addition, a separate 30 mA residual current circuit breaker (FI) must be provided. A combined FI/LS switch with corresponding tripping charac-
teristics is possible.
• The residual current circuit breaker should only supply the circuits intended for this unit.
• The mains plug may only be connected to the socket when the machine has been fully assembled and fixed to the wall.
• Do not use extension cables to connect the unit.
• Check the function of the residual current circuit breaker regularly using the function key.
• The unit must always be secured against falling or toppling over while being installed, repaired or maintained – risk of fatal injury!
• Place a retaining strap through the carriage and secure it with a lifting device!
• During installation and especially during operation, never reach inside the machine (behind the safety panels).
• Both M10 transport safety screws must only be removed once the unit has been properly attached to a wall or pillar.
• The transport safety screws must be kept safe for future maintenance work or transport!
Caution!
• During assembly, make sure that no tensile force is applied to the connecting cable between the brush unit and the control unit housing or that
the cable is mechanically damaged!
• Place the control box above the unit and out of reach of the animals!
• Motor cables from the unit frame to the control unit may have to be protected from being chewed by animals!
• The included gear ventilating screw must be fitted without fail before the first activation (see Fig. 1 - item 3)! Failure to observe this instruction
can result in damage to the gears!
• With pillar mounting especially, take care to ensure that the base frame does not twist. (possibly as a result of too much tension on the screws)
• The mounting frame available as an accessory (#18820-1) should be used for mounting on round or square pillars.
• The mounting frame for railings available as an accessory (#18820-2) should be used for mounting the machine on railings.
5.1 Scope of delivery
The unit is supplied on a pallet. The unit is assembled and ready for use; only the gear ventilation screw needs to be fitted after proper installation
on a wall or pillar and the transport safety screws removed. The control unit is also already connected to the drive and brush unit ready for opera-
tion.
5.2 Checks before commissioning
Before commissioning the unit, it must always be checked for completeness, visible defects or sources of danger.
The following checking measures should be carried out:
• Check the unit for loose or hanging parts or damage sustained during transport.
• Check the cable insulation.
• Check that all safety devices (safety panels) are present and are in perfect working order.
• Check whether there are any sources of danger near the unit that could impair its problem-free and safe operation (water hoses, influence of
weather, hanging cables or ropes, etc.).
5.3 Installation
The best possible positioning and stable securing is particularly important for ensuring the problem-free operation of this heavy-duty unit.
Caution!
The following must be noted:
• Do not set up the unit in a confined space in the pen.
• To avoid backlogs, do not set up the unit directly before or after the milking station.
• Do not set up the machine in proximity to equipment that is sensitive to dust.
• Mount the control unit on a stable, vibration-free base to avoid damage to electronic parts caused by shaking.
• Protect the unit and control unit from sun and precipitation.
• Mount the fastening frame on a firm, stable and level surface.
• For brick walls, a large, pressure-resistant underlay (e.g. screen printing plate at least 19 mm or steel plate at least 5 mm) is recommended.
• The surface of the fastening frame must be level, otherwise the frame can warp which can result in damage to the unit.
• For installation on railings, square and round pillars, the mounting frame available as an accessory from Kerbl must be used. (18820-1 – Moun-
ting frame for round and square pillars; 18820-1 - Mounting frame for railings)
• The unit must be connected to the wall through all 4 mounting holes of the fastening frame.
