VELIGAMES II
I. SCOPE
The VELIGAMES is a device allowing the rescuer the access to uni-directional, mono cable, or bi cable ropeways, to carry out the rescue of passengers in the
event of a breakdown of the ropeway. In case of ropeways with cabin type passengers, the VELIGAMES must be used on the carrying hauling rope, and a
specific risk evaluation must be made together with the rescue procedure.
The VELIGAMES complies with the European Directive 2000/9/CE, and has the corresponding EC marking.
This material must be used by persons, trained and capable of using it, according to the rescue procedure.
II. DESCRIPTION
The VELIGAMES is a device allowing the "Rescuer cableˮ to descend in total safety, by gravity, along cables with slope going from 10 % to 100 %; when the
slope is too low, the "Rescuer cableˮ operates 2 cranks to ascend slopes up to 10%.
The VELIGAMES is available in three models:
PM model for cables diameter 26 to 42 mm,
-
GM model for cables diameter 43 to 62 mm,
-
TGM model for cable diameter 63 to 80mm.
-
In descent, the VELIGAMES speed is regulated, regardless of the slope percentage and the weight of the person.
The braking is applied by the mixing of air produced by the propeller.
It also works with the "dead man" device: if the lever is released, the device locks onto the cable by itself.
When operating horizontally or uphill, the "dead manˮ device doesn't work, progress along the cable is done by the regular and rhythmic action of the du
"Rescuer cableˮ on the cranks.
III. FITTING THE VELIGAMES ON THE CABLE
III.1. ACCESS OF THE RESCUER AND OF THE VELIGAMES ON THE TOP OF THE TOWER
The "rescuer cable", wearing his PPE against falls climbs to the top of the tower, then goes to the downstream platform, from where he will start the
-
descent; he sits there, with his feet into space.
He secures himself with a retractable type fall arrester, complying with EN360; the 60mm diameter self locking hook is connected to the cable, upstream
-
the last cable roller of the cable support.
The "rescuer cable" raises the VELIGAMES with a belay rope fixed on the lever (8).
-
Then, the "rescuer ground" can climb to help him.
-
III.2. OPENING AND LOCKING
Engage the locking hook (1) of the "dead man" device on the locking axis (2) to keep the brake jaw (3) in open position.
-
Raise the locking cam (4) to engage the coaxial pin in one of the roller's catches (5) and lock the roller in rotation (6).
-
The VELIGAMES is ready to be fitted on the cable.
III.3. FITTING ON THE CABLE
Attach the VELIGAMES on the structure with the belay rope used to raise it to the top of the tower.
-
Insert the VELIGAMES on the cable, downstream the last roller support. The HELIGAMES and the counter-roller are headed downstream (7).
-
The cable must be positioned under the roller (6) and on the counter-roller (7). As the roller is locked in rotation by its axis (5), the device is maintained
stationnary on the cable.
-
Push the locking hook (1) out of its locking axis (2) to release the brake jaw (3) and ensure the "dead man" function.
Control the correct pressure of the brake jaw (3) on the cable. Depending on the diameter of the cable and on its slope, It may be necessary to adjust the
-
braking distance of the "dead man" function with the pawl (13)
Release the VELIGAMES belay rope from the structure
-
The VELIGAMES is ready to receive the "Rescuer cableˮ.
III.4. INSTALLATION OF THE RESCUER
Without removing his fall arrest link, the "rescuer cable":
Leaves the platform where he sits to position himself on the VELIGAMES, putting his feet on the footrest and sitting on the seat.
-
Connects the VELIGAMES safety sling (14) to his harness sternal buckle.
-
-
Removes his fall arrest link from its previous anchor point and fits it on the cable upstream the VELIGAMES.
Pushes the locking cam (4) downwards to lock it onto the locking axis (2), so that it doesn't dissociate during the descent. If the locking cam is locked, touch
-
the propeller blades with one hand to reduce the pressure.
The VELIGAMES is ready, the "rescuer cable" can descend along the cable.
III.5. STARTING AND STOPPING
Hold the "dead man" control lever (9) and pull it towards you: the brake jaw (3) is lifted off the cable, and the device moves slowly forward, thanks to the
-
propeller blades action (10). On a frosted cable, if the rescuer notes that the roller (6) is gliding, and that the propeller blades are not operating well when
he operates the "dead man" control lever (9), he must stop. He proceeds as follows: he puts his gloved hand on the cable behind the VELIGAMES; this
pressure on the cable allows the gripping of the roller (6) and the speed regulation of the propeller blades (10).
To stop the device, gradually release the "dead man" lever (9) until it is fully released. The "dead man" device operates on a frosted cable.
