IndIcatIon

The proGAV 2.0 is used for cerebrospinal fl uid
(cSf) drainage in the treatment of hydrocepha-
lus.

technIcal descrIPtIon

The proGAV 2.0 is a posture dependent hydro-
cephalus valve. It comprises an adjustable dif-
ferential pressure unit and a fi xed gravitational
unit (fi g. 1 and 2).

The adjustable dP-unit is composed of a solid
titanium body with a well-tried ball-cone valve
(1) integrated in its proximal part. A bow spring
(2) defi nes the opening pressure of the ball-
cone valve. The pretensioning of the spring,
and thus the valve opening pressure, can be
adjusted by turning a rotor (3), with the valve
implanted under the patient's skin.
The gravitational unit contains a tantalum ball
(4), which defi nes the opening pressure of this
valve, and a sapphire ball (5), which ensures the
precise closure of the valve. Underneath the
silicone catheters (6), a connector is provided.
