To remove the battery pack from the tool, press the release
button

and firmly pull the battery pack out of the tool
base. Insert it into the charger as described in the charger
section of this manual.
To hold the rotary tool, grip the main handle 
Turning Tool On and Off (Fig. A)

CAUTION: Because this tool has a separate speed
adjustment dial for setting the speed (6700 ‑
34000 rpm), the tool will start at the speed where the
speed adjustment dial is set.
1. To turn the tool on, depress the ON/OFF button 
tool will immediately run at the speed which is selected.
nOTE: Do not attempt to start tool with spindle lock
engaged. It will not run.
2. To turn the tool off, depress the ON/OFF button 
second time.
Speed Selection ( Fig. G)

CAUTION: Because this tool has a separate speed
adjustment dial for setting the speed (6700 ‑
34000 rpm), the tool will start at the speed where the
speed adjustment dial is set.

CAUTION: Never exceed the speed rating of the
accessory being used.

CAUTION: The speeds identified near the dial are
approximate. Actual rpm's on your tool may vary.
Be sure to select the proper speed for your rotary
tool operation.
1. To operate the tool, select the speed setting you wish
with the speed adjustment dial 
depress the ON/OFF button 
2. The speed setting can be adjusted with the tool on or off.
3. The speed adjustment dial shows the speed range, rotate
the speed adjustment dial to adjust the speed between
the 6700 rpms (MIN) and the 34000 rpms (MAX).
To increase the speed, rotate the speed adjustment
dial

clockwise.
To decrease the speed, rotate the speed adjustment
dial counter clockwise.
The speed range curve 
with two intermediate speeds of 15,000 and 25,000
RPM identified. To set the tool to those speeds align
the corresponding mark 
index mark on the housing.
Refer to the chart below for suggested speed adjustment
dial settings.

nOTE: These are suggested speeds. When using accessories
purchased separately, refer to the accessory instructions for
proper speed recommendations. If in doubt about the proper
speed for your operation, test the performance at low speed
settings and gradually increase until a comfortable speed
is found.
Using the Rotary Tool

WARNING: Always wear eye protection.
When operating the tool be sure to hold it securely as shown
in Fig. F. Before beginning a project, practice on a piece of
scrap material until comfortable with the operation. The
rotary tool is small and easy to use but it is powerful and
should be handled carefully and properly as described in
this manual.
Don't overload the tool. Performance is enhanced by
letting the tool do the work.
MAINTENANCE

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, turn unit off and remove the battery pack
before making any adjustments or removing/
installing attachments or accessories. An
accidental start‑up can cause injury.
Your CRAFTSMAN power tool has been designed to operate
over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool
care and regular cleaning.
Cleaning

WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with
clean, dry air at least once a week. To minimize the risk
of eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye
protection when performing this procedure.

WARNING: Never use solvents or other harsh
chemicals for cleaning the non‑metallic parts of the
tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materials
used in these parts. Use a cloth dampened only with
water and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside the
tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.
