Open the locking clips on the filter body and lift the pump head off (Fig.B). Take out the cover grid
and the media containers. Separate the media containers by opening the locking clips by means
of a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool (Fig.C). Take out the already supplied filter media, rinse
them thoroughly under running water before using.
Fill the empty containers with PRODAC INTERNATIONAL filter media:
CLAROCAR
(non supplied). Rinse them thoroughly under running water before using. Do not use
soap or detergent. Caution: do not overfill, do not clog flow-through pipe. In order to achieve the
most performing filtration, we suggest to place the media in the containers as follows, from bottom
to top: DF700 and DF1200 - CRYSTALCIL, sponge, wool; DF800 and DF1400 - CRYSTALCIL,
CLAROCAR, sponge, wool. If the aquarium is new, we suggest to add
directly into the filter to activate bacteria, if the aquarium is already set up, we suggest to pour
AQUASANA
(not supplied) directly into the tank to maintain biological water balance. Close the
containers with the locking clips, slide them along the groove into the filter body (Fig. D).
Cover the last container with the grid by matching the hole for the UV light. Connect the strainer to
the U-tube of the intake unit (Fig. E). If necessary, insert the vertical fitting to the U-tube before
inserting the strainer (Fig. F) by using one of the tube connectors (Fig.G). Fix the tube to the inside
wall of the tank by means of the suction cups.
Caution! The strainer must be installed below minimum water level. Connect the L-shaped fitting to
the U-tube of the outlet unit by using a tube connectors, and insert the adjustable diffuser (Fig.H).
Alternatively, assembly the spray-bar and its fitting to reach the length you wish and connect to the
L-shaped fitting (Fig.I). Caution! The spray-bar can either be installed below water level or just
above the surface, depending upon the amount of oxygen-rich surface movement required. Fix the
tube to the wall of the tank by means of the suction cups. Cut the flexible hoses to the most
convenient length to connect them to the intake and outlet U-tubes, be sure that the hoses have
no kinks, if necessary, shorten them. Open the closing lever of the IN/OUT unit and lift it off the
pump head (Fig.J). Connect the flexible hoses to the intake (IN) and outlet (OUT) unit and fix them
with the locking nuts (Fig.K). Insert the unit into the pump head and lock it by means of the locking
lever. Fill the filter body with ¾ water, place the pump head onto the filter body and lock it with the
clips. Caution! The UV lamp cover must fit exactly into the hole of the first media container.
Check to ensure that the sealing gasket of the pump head fits properly and is clean. Place the filter
where you wish, the distance between water surface and base of the filter should not exceed 180
cm (5'11'') in order to attain optimum functioning. Manually operate the priming pump until water
reaches the outlet tube (Fig.L). Check all the connections for watertightness, then connect the
pump head to the mains. After about 30 minutes and when there is no air inside the filter, adjust
the flowrate by moving the lever placed on the IN/OUT unit (Fig.M).
Press the lighting button of the UV lamp (Fig. N), an indicator light shows that the UV lamp is on.
All "DF series" external filters must be installed on a flat surface and in an upright position before
priming.
Maintenance
Caution:
before performing any type of aquarium maintenance always disconnect all electrical
equipment from the mains, installed both inside or outside your aquarium.
Pull out the intake and outlet unit (IN/OUT) without disconnecting the flexible hoses. Unlock the
pump head by opening the locking clips on the filter body and lift it off. Remove each media
container and wash the filter media. Replace wool, sponge and
and
CLAROCAR
every six months. To avoid destroying the colonies of bacteria in the filter media,
it is recommended to wash and to replace only one part of the filter media at one time. Unscrew
the two screws by means of a phillips screwdriver to remove the impeller cover (Fig.P). Remove
the impeller and rinse it under running warm water. It is suggested to clean the impeller every
three months and to replace it once a year. If necessary, clear all the deposits from the intake and
outlet unit and flexible hoses. For this operation it is suggested you use a small brush. Do not use
soap or cleaning detergents. Reassemble the whole unit in reverse order and connect the filter to
the mains as described under "Installation".
Uv lamp replacement
When the indicator light of the UV lamp is off, even if the lighting button is on the «on» position
(Fig.Q), the UV lamp is not working and must be replaced. Pull out the pump head, unscrew the
CRYSTALCIL
