SAFETY
■
Do not install the sensor at locations that are exposed to direct UV radiation
(sunlight) or other weather influences, unless this is expressly permitted in the
operating instructions.
When commissioning, protect the device from moisture and contamination.
■
These operating instructions contain information required during the life cycle of
■
the sensor.
The device must be supplied by a Class 2 power supply.
UL Environmental Rating: Enclosure type 1, 2, 4, 4X, 5, 6, 6P, 12
Capacitive proximity sensors are well-suited for the detection of solid and liquid objects
with or without contact to the detection object. This includes all metals and non-metal‐
lic substances.
If changes are made to the product, any warranty claim against SICK AG shall become
void.
Sensing range of capacitive sensors
The ability of capacitive proximity sensors to detect materials depends on the object's
density and electrical properties. The sensing range given for capacitive proximity sen‐
sors relates to a measuring plate made of standardized steel (ST37). The required
reduction factor must be considered when using different objects,

Operating mode
The sensors are equipped with two digital outputs. They can be operated either in SIO
mode (standard I/O mode) or in IO-Link mode.
The necessary information for IO-Link communication such as IODDs and process data
structure can be found at www.sick.com/cmb.
An IO-Link master is required for operation in IO-Link mode.
