Information for sensors IAS-30... and KAS-40... with ATEX certification category 1G
and for sensors IAS-30... and KAS-40... StEx suffix for Dust-Explosion areas, category 1D:
Description:
The capacitive or inductive sensor is designed for use in areas where there is a danger of explosion due
to the presence of inflammable gases. They can be used for example for level control of bulk material in
silos or containers or as a limit switch, appliance group II Category 1G.
The capacitive or inductive sensor IAS-30...StEx / KAS-40...StEx is also designed for use in explosion-
danger areas, caused by combustible dusts, appliance group III Category 1D.
The sensors with intrinsically safe output signals (KAS-40... and IAS-30-...), have to be operated by an
intrinsically safe switching equipment (e.g. Serie N-132...).
The sensor has a visible LED, which displays the operating state. The sensitivity adjustment of the capaci-
tive sensor KAS-40... with body sizes from 11 mm in Ø is made by means of a potentiometer accessible
from outside. The sensor reacts to the proximity of the filling material or objects to be detected in the active
area and changes its output signal.

Potential compensation:
Devices with a plastic body ≥ 30 mm, cable, plastic parts and devices with a metal body must be protected
against the potentially dangerous build-up of electrostatic charges. This can be achieved by ensuring that
the metal body of the sensor is electrically grounded. Alternatively, with cable connection sensor devices,
the green/yellow earth wire should be connected to a system ground. The green/yellow lead is electrically
connected to the metal body of the sensor. The same is valid for the correspondent pin for sensors with
a connector.
When the IAS-30... / KAS-40... that is connected to an intrinsically safe device is completely installed in
zone 0 / zone 20, then the cable has to be lead tightly through a cable-gland into zone 0 / zone 20 or zone
1 / zone 21 and should be protected against static charges by means of a metal screen or metal tube that
should be included in the potential compensation
Please note: The conditions of the EN 50281-1-2 e.g. relating to dust-coating and temperatures must be met.
