long push (> 1 sec.) of the strength selection button
and strength display LED 1 or LED 3 begins to flash
depending on the current outlet direction of rotation.
• If LED 1 flashes, the outlet is rotating clockwise and
the outer area of the coffee powder is moistened.
LED 3 indicates the opposite direction of rotation
and moistening is carried out centrally.
• Pressing the strength selection button briefly (<1 sec.)
allows you to change the rotation direction of the
outlet.
• You can change the direction of rotation as many
times as you want. The manual extraction con-
trol can be ended again by pressing the strength
selection button longer (> 1 sec.). The appliance
automatically continues the extraction control set
before brewing when you set the number of cups
and strength.
4. Warm-keeping/automatic switch-off
• The taste of coffee changes when it is kept warm
for longer periods. To prevent this, you should
enjoy your coffee as fresh as possible immediately
after brewing. Furthermore, unnecessarily keeping
the coffee warm costs valuable energy.
• If you still want to keep the coffee warm, the appli-
ance will automatically switch off 40 minutes after
the brewing process ends.
• The BREW button is lit up continuously during
warm-keeping. You can also switch off the keep-
warm plate manually by pressing the BREW button
longer (>1 sec.).
• If the appliance is not used, it will switch off auto-
matically after 5 minutes.
• Your last settings are automatically stored.
• You can then activate the appliance again by pressing
the BREW or GRIND button longer (>1 sec.).
Pressing the GRIND or BREW button longer again
(>1 sec.) allows you to switch from the grinding to
brewing function and vice versa.
5. Descaling
• Using water with very high levels of limescale can
impair the function of the appliance. After you have
used the coffee machine for a while, limescale de-
posits will build up in the appliance. To ensure that
your coffee machine works perfectly and has a long
life, you need to descale it on a regular basis.
• Descaling is urgently needed when the red CALC
display lights up on the control panel . If you
use the appliance on a daily basis with very hard
water, we recommend descaling once per month
as a precautionary measure regardless of when the
CALC display lights up.
• Limescale can also block the three outlet openings
on the rotating outlet. In that case, the water will
flow out of the overflow hole. Precise damping of
the coffee grounds and accordingly good extraction of
the coffee aroma can then no longer be guaranteed.
If you notice this, you need to perform descaling
immediately. To ensure good limescale removal at
the outlet openings, we recommend using double
the quantity of descaling agent and water in this
3 Outlet openings
case. Otherwise please proceed as described in the
next chapter.
5.1 Descaling process
• Please use a commercially available descaling agent
to do this. We recommend using Melitta
Liquid for Filter Coffee & Aqua Machines'.
• Prepare the descaling fluid as specified by the manu-
facturer and pour it into the water tank.
• Place the jug on the keep-warm plate and fit the
filter holder in the correct position underneath the
outlet (or upper appliance mounting).
• Activate the appliance by pressing the BREW button
longer (>1 sec.) as for coffee preparation. The
BREW button now starts to flash rapidly.
• A subsequent, brief press (<1 sec.) of the BREW
button starts the descaling process. Other settings
do not need to be observed for this process. The
BREW button will flash slowly.
• Once about half of the liquid has run through the
appliance, stop the process by pressing the BREW
button again briefly (<1 sec.). The BREW button will
start to flash rapidly again.
• Wait for 10 minutes to ensure that the remaining
descaling fluid removes as much limescale from the
appliance as possible.
• Next reactivate the appliance by pressing the BREW
button longer (>1 sec.) and then briefly (<1 sec.).
Allow the remaining fluid to run through the appli-
ance.
• If you hear a signal sound, switch the appliance off
by pressing the BREW button longer.
• Empty the jug.
5.2 Rinsing process after descaling
• The appliance must be rinsed after descaling to
remove any remaining descaling agent.
• First rinse out the water tank under running water.
Then fill the water tank up to the 8-cup mark and
put it back into the appliance.
• Activate the appliance, start it, as in a normal
brewing process, and allow all of the water to flow
through the appliance.
• If you hear a signal sound, switch the appliance off
by pressing the BREW button longer (>1 sec.).
• If the appliance was completely descaled during the
descaling process, the CALC lamp will no longer be
illuminated after the rinsing process. If this is still the
case, the limescale in the appliance was so far advan-
ced that one descaling process was not sufficient to
completely descale the heater. In this case, repeat
the descaling and rinsing process one more time.
• Empty the glass jug.
• Then rinse out the glass jug with water.
