2 Safety
2.1 Classification of important informa-
tion
This document contains important information that
is presented either as a warning, caution or note, ac-
cording to the following examples:
WARNING! Risk of personal injury
Warnings indicate a potential hazard to the
health and safety of personnel, and how that
hazard may be avoided.
CAUTION! Risk of equipment damage
Cautions indicate a potential hazard to the
product but not to personnel, and how that
hazard may be avoided.
NOTE!
Notes contain other information that is import-
ant for personnel.
Mount the KSA70 on a pole or strong wall allowing for
its own weight plus the weight of the separated ma-
terial. Prior to emptying the weight can increase to
400 kg in extreme cases.
The bottom lid is closed by the vacuum in the pre sep-
arator, this occurs with significant force and can cause
injuries to fingers. Do not touch the lid during normal
operation and turn off the vacuum before carrying out
inspection or service work.
KSA70
3 Description
KSA70 is a pre-separator for heavy particles, e.g. met-
al chips, with or without cutting fluid. KSA70separ-
ates heavy and abrasive particles that can otherwise
cause unnecessary wear in the pipework or can cause
blockages. The amount of fluids can be large without
creating problems, a splash guard (optional) is recom-
mended to prevent splashing during emptying.
A common use for KSA70 is vacuum systems used for
the extraction of cast iron chips, graphite and fluids.
This can create a thick coating within the pipework if
there is not a pre-separator near each suction point.
In such an application, the arrangement will appear as
in
Figure
2. Only one suction point will lead to a KSA70
via a short length of pipework. Reinforced bends must
be used
for some applications, it can also be advantageous
to use durable rubber hose for connecting to the
KSA70 inlet. The rubber hose must be connected to
the KSA70 with a special adapter in order to prevent
possible clogging.
If a pipework is installed upstream of the KSA70 and
branches out to a number of suction points, there is
a risk that problems will arise e.g. wearing, clogging
and poor suction within the system. Pipe systems up-
stream of the KSA70 defeat the purpose of using pre-
separators. If the material is slightly abrasive and does
not have the tendency to clump together, then a short
pipework can be installed upstream of the KSA70.
KSA70 is not suitable for light or fine-grained ma-
terial or for fluffy materials, such materials can pass
through the separator or can lead to blockages.
There must be a vacuum valve between the outlet
of the KSA70 and the pipework, see
is not the case, the KSA70 cannot be emptied. When
the valve closes the vacuum inside the housing dis-
appears, the weight of the stored material on the bal-
anced lid will allow the lid to open, thus emptying the
KSA70. Suitable vacuum valves, and operational con-
trol of these, are shown further on in this manual.
