ANSI ATTENUATION
The level of noise entering a person's ear, when hearing protector is worn as directed, is closely approximated by the
difference between the
A-weighted environmental noise level and the NRR.
Example:
1. The environmental noise level as measured at the ear is 92 dB(A)
2. The NRR is 23 decibels (dB)
3. The level of noise entering the ear is approximately equal to 69 dB(A)
Please refer to the ANSI attenuation table for your specific ear defender NRR rating.
CAUTION: For noise environments dominated by frequencies below 500Hz, the C-weighted environmental noise
level should be used. Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating noise. Refer to the Fitting &
Adjustment section for correct fit instructions. Although hearing protectors can be recommended for protection against
the harmful effects of impulsive noise, the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is based on the attenuation of continuous
noise and may not be an accurate indicator of the protection attainable against impulsive noise such as gunfire.
Constant or repetitive exposure to impulsive noise may lead to serious injury, including temporary or permanent
deafness. Earmuffs must be properly fitted to attenuate noise effectively.
ADVICE TO USERS
These ear defenders are intended to reduce the harmful effects that noise may have on the hearing. The helmet
mounted and headband ear defenders comply with EN 352-3 and EN352-1 respectively and meet the 'small, medium
& large size range'. For size ranges, refer to product packaging. These ear defenders have satisfied the requirements
of the stress test under water at + 50ºC and the drop test at - 20ºC.

WEAR & CARE
Protective products are best cleaned and disinfected with warm tap water and a soft cloth taking care to avoid
scratching. Check before use that all parts are operational and undamaged. Store in cool, dry place and transport in
original closed packaging (between -20ºC & +55ºC) for up to five years avoiding direct sunlight. The product has an in
use life of up to five years. Ear defenders and in particular cushions may deteriorate with use and should be examined
during frequent intervals for cracking and leakage, for example. This product may be adversely affected by certain
chemical substances. Further information should be sought from the manufacturer.
FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
Helmet mounted Ear Defenders
To fit ear defender accessory clip to helmet: First refer to Table 1 for Helmet and Clip compatibility.Insert centre part
of clip into helmet accessory slot and apply gentle pressure until located (Fig 1)
To fit ear defender to accessory clip: Once selected clips are located into the helmet accessory slots
(Fig 1), line up the top of the ear defender body to the bottom part of the accessory clip. Using reasonable pressure,
engage the ear defender into the accessory clip (Fig 2) and then rotate upwards (an audible click should be heard).
This will enable the ear defender to be rotated within the clip.
IMPORTANT: Once a helmet clip is fitted to an ear defender it cannot be removed.
Headband Ear Defenders
Pull the cups outwards and place over your ears so that the cushions fully enclose the ears and seal tightly against
your head (Fig A). Adjust the height of each cup on both sides while holding the headband down until you have a tight
and comfortable fit (Fig B).The headband should sit straight on the head (Fig C).
FITTING & ADJUSTMENT
Fit, adjust and maintain in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Wear at all times in noisy surroundings and
inspect regularly for serviceability. If these recommendations are not adhered to, the protection afforded will be
severely impaired. The helmet should first be adjusted with the ear defenders in the parked position against the helmet
sides (Fig 3). Then position the ear defenders level with the ears and press the wire arms towards the head until
you hear a click both sides, indicating the correct fitting position (Fig 4). Adjust so that the whole ear is inside the ear
defender cup with the seal area contacting against the head. Centurion Ear Defenders are constructed from tough
thermo plastic materials for long life. Cushions and foams are made of PU. Hygiene kits (SANA type ear defenders)
are available for use with Centurion ear defenders. See below for fitting instructions for cushions and foam pads.
Cushions: - When replacing, peel away adhesive backed cushion from coloured indicator ring. Attach new cushion
by peeling from backing sheet and placing in identical position as old cushion. Apply firm pressure to ensure cushion
is well adhered.
Foam Pads: When replacing, first remove foam from ear defender cup. Position replacement foam centrally onto
black cushion (Fig 5) and push middle of foam into ear defender cup (Fig 6).Now smooth foam evenly inside ear
defender cup (Fig 7)
To obtain best performance it is important to ensure suitability for the wearer. It is essential to achieve a good and
comfortable cushion seal around each ear. There must be minimal or no obstructions in this area. No other part of
either defender should clash or contact the helmet shell/other helmet parts (this may have a detrimental affect on
attenuation performance). Re-position the cup to ensure no contact. If contact persists the ear defender should be
deemed unsuitable for the wearer.
Alternative ear defenders should be sought if the fitting criteria are not met. The fitting of hygiene covers to the
cushions may affect the acoustic performance of the ear defenders.
