8. Maintenance
If your EQ-1 Reader is not performing optimally, reset the device. To reset the device, simply remove the
battery and then reinsert or replace (see section 8.1 for more information)
8.1 How to change the Reader Battery

The battery port is located on the left side of
the Reader.
2. Remove the two screws from the battery
door using the screwdriver provided (a).
3. Pay close attention to replace the old battery
with a new 9V battery, taking care to align the
+ and – symbols with the battery port (b).
• For optimal performance, a Duracell
Coppertop 9V disposable battery is
recommended.
4. Replace the battery door using the
screwdriver provided, ensuring that it has
been inserted in the correct orientation.
• Important: The ridge on the battery
door should lay directly over the + and –
symbols and align with the ridge in the
middle of the side of the reader (c).
• Do not overtighten the screws, as they
may break or strip.

8.2 "Clean Lens" error: How to clean the
Reader Lens
1.
Open the cartridge port door.
2. Tilt the reader up to locate the lens through
the cartridge port door on the inside upper
surface of the Reader.
3. The lens is a silver-black strip coursing front
to back in the middle of the white rectangle.
4. Using a clean cotton swab dipped in 70%
isopropyl alcohol, carefully clean the lens by
running the cotton swab across the lens in a
forward and backwards motion. Do not apply
any other liquid or cloth types directly to the
lens.
5. After the lens has been cleaned, examine to
ensure no particulates remain.
6. Important: As the final step, the reader
MUST be Reset. To do this, remove the
battery from the device completely, re-insert
or replace it (see section 8.1).

The reader is now ready for use.
