MOUNTING (CONT.)
Drill two 7/16" (12mm) diameter
holes with center lines exactly
3-11/16" (93.66mm) apart (Figure 7)
in the support chosen for the
winch. Attach the winch to the
support with two (2) 3/8-16 Hex
Head Bolts. Be sure the hardware is
assembled as shown. Tighten the
hardware to 35 lb. ft. torque.

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
This winch operates on standard
automotive 12-or 24-volt Direct
Current.
Do not
connect winch
to 110 Volt house current. Motor
damage or fatal shock may occur.
Automobile
batteries
contain gasses which are flammable
and explosive. Wear eye protection
during installation and remove all
metal jewelry. Do not lean over the
battery while making connections.
Heavy duty solenoids are mounted
behind the winch motor (Figure 8).
Step 1 - Remove the motor cover
carefully as there are internal
electrical connections. The solenoid
terminals and buss bars are labeled
to aid installation. Match labels for
proper hook-up.

When attaching
wires to the
solenoids, hold the inner nut when
tightening the outer nut. Do not allow
the solenoid terminal to rotate, causing
internal wire breakage (Figure 9).

Step 2- Attach the positive (+) and
negative (-) leads to their respective
points on the solenoid assembly.
Step 3 - Feed both leads through
the grill and to the battery making
sure that wires are away from all
hot and moving engine parts. Use
the cable ties provided to keep the
leads in place.
If it is necessary to drill holes to
feed the wires, be sure the wires
are protected from damage by
using a grommet (Figure 10). Use
cables ties to secure wires along the
route.

Be sure the
wires are kept
away from all moving and hot part on
the vehicle.
Step 4 - Whenever the ground
connection is made to the vehicle
frame an auxillary ground wire
must be installed. The auxillary
ground wire should be 6 gauge and
installed between the engine and
vehicle frame or between the
battery negative terminal and
vehicle frame.
Step 5 - Attach the circuit breaker
assembly to the battery positive
terminal last to avoid any shorts or
sparks. Be sure connections are
clean and tight. If connection to the
battery positive terminal is not
possible because of the terminal
design, connect the circuit breaker
to the solenoid "hot" side.
Determine the "hot" side by tracing
the battery cable to the solenoid
connection. Connect the circuit
breaker to the same terminal the
battery cable is connected to
(Figure 11).

Note: Special adapters are available
from your local auto parts dealers
for making connections to side post
batteries. Double wrap the solenoid
assembly with the electrical tape
provided to prevent accidental
short circuits.
Note: If the winch is mounted at
the rear of the vehicle, a special
wiring kit (P/N 1520) is available
from Superwinch.
When extending the lead wires for
rear vehicle mount, always use 6
gauge wire or heavier to extend the
existing wires to the battery.
Step 6 - Replace motor/solenoid
cover. With the manual
handle/handsaver bar, reel off
approximately two feet of wire
rope. Insert remote control in
socket on cover and test for proper
rotation. Note: Read the following
section on switch operation before
testing your winch if winch runs in
the wrong direction, reverse the
black and green wires from the
switch receptacle to the solenoids.
