3 Description
3.1 Equipment
The HWC cable cutters are single-acting hydraulic tools designed to be driven only by a Holmatro
hydraulic pump. The complete system operates with mineral oil and has an allowable operating
pressure of 720 bar.
The cable cutter has a fixed blade and a moveable blade. The moveable blade is attached to a single-
acting hydraulic cylinder with spring return. When the hydraulic oil flows from the pump to the tool, the
cylinder extends and the moveable blade closes. When the oil pressure is released, the blade opens by
means of the spring in the tool and the oil flows back to the pump.
There are two basic types:
• HWC series: a steel cable cutter, specially developed for cutting steel cables, slings, etc.
These cable cutters are used in both rescue and industrial applications. The models HWC 16/32 U
are provided with a quick-action coupler for the cutting jaw. The HWC 20 U has a cutting jaw lock by
using a removable pin.
• HCC series: an electric cable cutter, specially developed for cutting armoured, multiple electric and
telephone cables. These models have a cutting jaw lock by using a removable pin.
The HCC 85/100 U are single-acting hydraulic tools for both rescue and industrial applications.
The HCC 150 cable cutter is a double-acting hydraulic tool for industrial applications.
