Description
Calypso-II-R is a standalone wireless smoke detector with a
built-in radio connection. Calypso-II-R is designed for home
use. It detects smoke generated by the initial stages of a fire,
and warns the user with a loud audible signal. Please read the
following pages carefully before installing and commissioning
Calypso-II-R.
Caution:
Calypso-II-R does not detect heat, gases, or flames.
Note that this device does not emit any radiofrequency waves
except during the alarm signal and the interlinking process.
There are no radioactive substances in the product.

Positioning advice
Minimum installation
One detector per floor, preferably in hallways and stairwells.
Note:
If possible, choose areas near bedroom entrances as
the risk of smoke intoxication is higher during sleep.
Recommended installation
•
One detector per room.
•
For rooms where false alarms may occur frequently (for
example, kitchen, garage, etc.), check the installation
precautions.
•
Do not install wireless smoke detectors in bathrooms.
See Figure 2.

Observe the distances indicated in Figure 3.
Long hallway
In hallways exceeding 10 m in length, install at least two
detectors. Distribute the detectors as evenly as possible,
preferably in areas near bedrooms and staircases.

Positioning precautions
Positioning precautions
Certain effects can hinder the operation of the wireless smoke
detectors:
•
Condensation in laundry rooms.
•
Condensation in bathrooms. Detector installation should
be avoided in this room because of the high risk of false
alarms.
•
Smoke dilution caused by ventilation sources (air
conditioning, heating, window, etc.)
•
Dust in attics, lofts, workshops, etc.
•
Abnormally low or high ambient temperature. See
"Specifications" on page 5 for details.
•
Devices that generate smoke (cooker, oven, vehicle
exhaust, etc.)
Ensure that any rooms containing these types of devices are
well ventilated. Vehicle exhaust fumes (in garages): risk of
false alarm.
Positioning in the kitchen
The installation of a wireless smoke detector in a kitchen is not
recommended because of the high risk of false alarms and
because the detector can quickly become dirty.
Leave a distance of at least 2 m (for a floor area of at least
9 m²) from any device that emits smoke or vapour.
The installation of a detector in a kitchen smaller than 9 m²
must be avoided.
To prevent spurious alarms, use the silencing feature
whenever you are using a device that emits smoke or vapour.
Figure 4: Kitchen positioning example
(1) Recommended location
Position the detector in the area furthest from any source of
smoke or vapour.
Installation and commissioning
Required tools and prerequisites
Drill, 5 mm bit; wall plugs, and screws are supplied.
Familiarise yourself with the information in this document.
Installation instructions
For mounting on hollow materials, we recommend the use of
appropriate expansion wall plugs.
If you install one or more detectors, check the radio signal
quality prior to mounting (refer to section "Checking the quality
of the radio connection" on page 3 for more information).
1.
Place the base on the ceiling within the area covered by
the radio connection.
2.
Orient the test button (Figure 1, item 1) so that it will be
visible and accessible.
3.
Mark the locations where the two holes must be drilled to
insert the wall plugs.
4.
Drill the holes and insert the wall plugs.
