2. Important safety information
2.1. General safety information
To avoid falls and dangerous situations, you should first practise
using your new wheelchair on level, manageable terrain or in an
obstacle-free area. An accompanying person is recommended in
this case.
Only drive on level, solid ground.
Be aware of the danger of jamming between moving parts when
adjusting, using and maintaining the wheelchair.
The accompanying person should be physically and mentally
capable of driving a wheelchair.
The driver and attendant must not be under the influence of
alcohol or drugs.
Before using the wheelchair, please check that all attached parts
are properly fastened.
Only lift the wheelchair by firmly attached parts (the push handles
or the frame parts).
Make sure that the quick-release axles are correctly seated in the
axle sockets, otherwise there is a risk of injury.
Keep clothing and body parts away from gaps between moving
parts.
Please note that the risk of tipping over is increased if there is a
shift in balance (e.g. due to strong upper body movements or when
overcoming obstacles).
When negotiating obstacles (steps etc.), an attendant must
be called in. Use the tipping aid (see chapter 4.15) to tilt the
wheelchair accordingly.
Stairs and larger obstacles may only be overcome with the help of
at least two accompanying persons. Use the lifting points for this
(see chap. 6.3). If facilities such as ramps, lifts or stair-climbing aids
are available, these must be used (Fig. A).
When driving on a slope, please note that, depending on the axle
position, there is a risk of tipping over from just a few degrees.
