TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM
Pump does not take in
water.
Pump takes in water, little
or no discharge.
Suction hose leaks at inlet.
Discharge hose does not
stay on coupling.
Impeller does not turn;
pump is hard to start.
WATER PUMP
CAUSE
• Engine speed is too low. Adjust the
speed.
• Strainer is plugged.
• Suction hose is damaged.
• Air leak at suction port.
• Pump is too high above the water.
• Debris are collected in pump- ing
housing.
• Too much clearance between the
impeller and insert..
• Engine speed is too low.
• Suction strainer is partially
plugged.
• Impeller is worn.
• Volute insert is worn or damaged.
• Clamps are not sealed properly.
• Hose diameter is too large.
• Hose is damaged.
• Pressure may be too high for
clamps being used.
• Hose kinked or end blocked.
• Impeller jammed or blocked.
• Impeller and insert binding.
REMEDY
• Not enough priming water in
housing
• Clean the strainer.
• Replace or repair the hose.
• Check that fittings are tight and
housing cover O-rings are sealed
properly.
• Clean the pump housing.
• Adjust the speed setting.
• Clean the strainer.
• Adjust the clearance by adding
shims or replace the impeller.
• Adjust the clearance or replace the
insert..
• Tighten, replace or add clamp.
• Add another clamp.
• Check the hose.
• Open the pump cover and clean
dirt and debris from inside of the
pump housing.
• Adjust the clearance by removing
shim from behind the insert.
