Maintenance and repair
WARNING
Do not use halogenated hydrocarbon
solvents such as methylene chloride or
1, 1, 1-trichloroethane in this pump.
An explosion can result with aluminium
and/or zinc-plated parts in pump come
in contact with halogenated
hydrocarbon solvents.
Failure to comply may lead to death or
serious personal injury.
WARNING
Do not perform any overhaul
procedures prior to releasing all
pressure within system.
• Disconnect air supply line from pump
motor.
• Into an appropriate container, operate
control valve to discharge remaining
pressure within system.
Failure to comply may lead to
personal injury.
WARNING
Do not point a control valve at any
portion of body or another person.
Accidental discharge of pressure and/or
material can occur.
Failure to comply may lead to death or
serious personal injury.
Overhaul
NOTE
Refer to Fig. IPB 1, page 14, for
component identification for all overhaul
procedures.
Disassembly
Separate pump tube
from air motor
1 Clamp body (11) horizontally in a soft-
jaw vise.
2 Loosen jam nut (13) that secures pump
tube to body (11).
NOTE
Support pump tube during removal.
Damage to components can occur.
3 Unscrew cylinder (15) from body (11).
4 Remove cylinder with attached
components.
5 Pull rod and stop (7) to expose end of air
motor's piston.
6 Remove cotter pin (6) that secures air
motor's piston to rod (7).
7 Unscrew rod (7) from air motor's piston.
8 Unscrew and remove air motor (1) from
body (11).

Pump tube
Body
9 Remove gasket (12) from bottom of
body (11).
10 Unscrew bushing (9) from body (11).
11 Remove o-ring (8) from bushing.
12 Remove packing group (10) from
body (11).
NOTE
Evenly tap bottom packing of group with
a wide-blade, flat-head screwdriver.
Cylinder
13 Unscrew nut (18) that secures
plunger (17) to rod.
14 Remove plunger (17) and washer (16)
from rod.
15 Unscrew base valve (21) with attach-
ments from cylinder (15).
16 Remove o-ring (20) from base valve.
17 Unscrew nut (18) that secures stud (19)
to base valve.
18 Remove stud and washer (16) from base
valve.
19 Remove jam nut and bung adapter (14)
from cylinder.
Clean and inspect
1 Clean all metal parts in cleaning solvent.
Solvent should be environmentally safe.
2 Inspect all parts for wear and damage.
Replace as necessary.
3 Inspect plunger (17) for wear. Replace as
necessary.
4 Inspect bore of cylinder (15) for any
score marks. Replace as necessary.
5 Closely inspect mating surfaces on all
check valve components for any
imperfections. Ensure a smooth and
clean contact is obtained when
assembled.
