ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
SANTíSIMA TRINIDAD
HULL
PHOTOS 1 to 4. Assemble the hull structure following the numerical order of the photos. Before gluing the frames in place
make sure that they are correctly fitted into position "abutting" up against the corresponding slots on the false keel. It is
important that the frames are completely perpendicular to the false keel to ensure that the decks fit correctly. Also fit the battens
and decks nos. 12, 13 and 14. For this operation use white glue (carpenter's glue) as the adhesive.
PHOTO 5. Invert the skeleton of the hull and support it on a flat surface. For the back frame of the hull insert the crossbeams
that will serve as reinforcement. Before gluing them in place make sure that both the first and the last frame are well supported
on the flat surface. Use a quick setting glue to make sure the joint is firm and then apply white glue to the whole of the contact
area between the crossbeam and the frames.
PHOTO 6. Glue frame no. 16, the supports no. 17 and frame no. 18 into place making sure that they keep to the same position
as shown in the photo. Use white glue.
PHOTO 7. The battens, nos. 19, 20, 21 and the support, no. 22, are also glued into place using white glue.
PHOTOS 8 & 9. Using lining strakes make up the deck supports, nos. 23 and 24, onto the frames, nos. 5 and 8, respectively.
These supports must be parallel with the top of the frames and aligned with the false keel so that they will later support the deck,
no. 25.
PHOTO 10. Line both halves of the deck, no. 25, using the planking, no. 26. Start the lining from the straightest area. Use
contact adhesive (cobbler's glue). Carefully read the manufacturer's usage instructions. Trim off the excess planking using a
cutter. To simulate the planking and caulking effect of the decks, mark out the planking sheets lengthways using a pencil.
PHOTO 11. Glue the lined decks to the structure of the ship. It is important that the decks are correctly supported by the frames.
For this process use quick setting glue.
PHOTO 12. Following the same procedure as in photo 10, line the main deck, no. 27, using the planking, no. 28. The slots, all
around the perimeter of the deck, must be hidden. Only the slots at the back that align with frames nos. 10, 11 and 16 will be
opened up again so that the decks are fitted into place between them.
PHOTO 13. Glue the lined decks onto the structure of the ship. It is important that the decks are correctly adjusted to the top of
the frames. Use quick setting glue for this process.
PHOTO 14. Glue the deck, no. 29, lined with the planking, no. 32. The reinforcement battens, nos. 30 and 31, are glued to the
false keel and under the deck. Also line the front surface of the first frame.
PHOTO 15. To ensure a good contact surface for the bulwarks and gun ports, using a sander or a file, rebate the edge of the
frames from bow to stern. This operation can only be carried out in the stopes that all the frames have. Check with the later
steps in order to get an idea of where the bulwarks and gun ports will be located. Repeat these steps on both sides of the hull.
PHOTO 16. File down the whole length of the hull. Also adjust the profile of the main deck so that bulwark no. 33, the next step,
can later be well seated.
PHOTO 17. Glue and pin the bulwarks, no. 33, to the structure of the hull. They must be glued all around the profile of the main
deck. Start at the bow as shown in the photo. Use a quick setting glue.
PHOTO 18. The bulwarks must be fitted into place as shown in the photo.
PHOTO 19. At the stern the aspect will be as shown. Do not sand off the excess yet.
PHOTO 20. Cut the strips of plywood, no. 34, into equal approximately 15x15 mm. lengths, to make up the bases for the guns,
to be pinned to the hull.
PHOTO 21. Glue six cut-out pieces of the base, no. 34, to the inside of the gun ports, no. 35. These pieces must cover the gun
port openings. Make sure, with a view to their subsequent attachment to the hull, that the bases do not interfere with the correct
seating of the part. Glue these parts firmly into place using quick setting glue.
PHOTO 22. Glue and pin the gun ports, no. 35, to the structure of the hull. These parts can be dampened using water so that
they better adapt to the shape of the hull. You must start gluing them into place from the bow and under the top bulwark, as
shown in the photo. Glue four of the bases, no. 34, into place in the interior.
PHOTO 23. The end of the gun port must be glued into place on the profile of frame no. 16. Glue more pieces of the base, no.
34, into place until you have fully covered the gun port openings.
PHOTOS 24 to 26. Repeat the same steps with gun ports nos. 36 and 37, and the bases, no. 34, on both sides of the hull.
PHOTO 27. In order to ensure a good contact surface for the lining strakes, using a file or sander, file or sand down the
reinforcing pins and bevel the edges of the frames from the bow to the stern.
PHOTO 28. Carry out the same steps as in the previous photo, but this time at the stern of the ship and sanding from stern to
bow.
PHOTO 29. Line the lower art of the upper stern using the strakes, no. 38. The lining must cover the area from the support, no.
22, to batten no. 19. Trim off the excess on both sides of the hull.
PHOTO 30. Before starting to line the hull you can soak the lining strakes, nos. 39 and 40, for at least an hour so that the wood
recovers its elasticity. The lining of the hull should be started at the top of the bulwarks. Firstly glue the lining strakes, no. 39,
into place using quick setting glue and then, under these, lining strakes no. 40. The excess must be trimmed off and the gun
