SPECIAL FEATURES
The Leica Noctilux-M 75 f/1.25 ASPH. is characterized by very even imaging
performance over the entire image field that barely decreases, even in the
extreme corners of the format and even when the aperture is open. This
performance is largely retained even at the shortest setting distance. Although
stopping down results in a further increase in performance, in most cases it is
not necessary except for reasons of image composition with depth of field.
All image errors are corrected well, the slight vignetting is compensated for
digitally in the camera - if camera models with the appropriate equipment are
used. The distortion is extremely slight from the outset and therefore barely
noticeable. A total of nine lens elements are used to achieve this performance.
Four of them comprise lens elements with anamolous partial dispersion
(divergent color dispersion), which contribute to minimizing the chromatic image
errors (longitudinal and transverse color defects). Two aspherical lens element
surfaces correct monochromatic image errors. The rearmost three lens elements
form a 'floating group' that is shifted independently of the other lens elements
during focusing. This construction makes a key contribution to the high imaging
performance in close-up. The high-quality coatings on all lens element surfaces
help to ensure low ghosting and flare.
Summary
The Leica Noctilux-M 75 f/1.25 ASPH. brings together the best imaging
performance right up to close-ups, and, when the aperture is open, an extremely
shallow depth of field in conjunction with a particularly 'soft' reproduction of the
out-of-focus background. This opens up new picture composition options,
especially in the field of portrait and detail shots.
