BELT ADJUSTMENTS CONTINUED
3.1
As the Cylinder and Bottom Blade wear,
the tension on the Intermediate belt will
increase. A sympton of this is that the
Cylinder may "free-wheel" when not
engaged. Should this happen the tension
on the intermediate belt, needs to be re-
adjusted. Follow steps outlined in steps
10.10.2.1.

BACKLAPPING THE CUTTING UNIT
The keen cutting edges of the spiral cutters can be
maintained by the process of 'backlapping'.
1.
Tilt the machine backwards.
WARNING
Turn petrol tap to the "OFF" position before
tilting the machine rearwards.
2.
Check the cutting cylinder is set correctly
to the bottom blade (see previous note).
3.
Disengage the cylinder clutch and landroll
clutch, when fitted.
4.
Remove the belt cover.
5.
Smear some carborundum paste* on the
spiral cutters.
6.
Rotate the cutting cylinder clockwise by
using a socket spanner and brace on screw
(7) at the LH end of the cylinder spindle.

Belt to run against flange.

Lock nut in set position once belt drives
correctly.

Adjust screw to angle idler pulley to allow
belt to run against outer flange.
checks should be made on the setting of the cutting
cylinder to the bottom blade and if necessary slight
adjustments made.
When the cutters have been sharpened satisfactorily
they will cut the paper cleanly along the length of the
bottom blade.
WIPE OFF ALL TRACES OF THE CARBORUNDUM
PASTE.
* Obtainable from most automobile service stations.
