• Insert the bore gage measuring head into an
appropriate setting master like the Starrett
3089-RS36B or Starrett Micrometer. With the aid of
the hardened steel centralizer, the movable plunger
will precisely locate itself against one side of the
bore, while the threaded carbide contact positions
itself against the opposite side. If necessary, the
indicator can be adjusted to its middle range by
loosening the indicator lock screw (3) and moving
the indicator assembly up or down, then retighten
the lock screw (3) finger-tight.
• To achieve the desired setting on the indicator,
carefully rock the tool back and forth in the setting
master. This will cause the needle or display of
the indicator to find the reversal point and it is at
this position the indicator should be set at zero.
The final setting to zero can be accomplished by
rotating the bezel on the dial indicator.
