PHYSICAL INSTALLATION
Pump Location
• Decide on an area for the installation that is suitable based on the enclosure rating of the electric
pump motor.
NOTE: All VersaJet pumps are UL778 approved and will be marked "ACCEPTABLE FOR OUTDOOR
or INDOOR USE."
• Install the pump in a clean, dry, and ventilated location shielded from excessive heat, direct sun, and
precipitation.
• Provide adequate room for future servicing, protection from freezing temperatures, flooding, and
equipment drainage.
• Bolt unit down evenly on a good foundation, preferably concrete, to prevent unnecessary stresses
from pump movement.
• Install as close as possible to water source to minimize suction piping length.
• Seal the well from surface contamination as required by the local authorities with a sanitary well
seal or a pitless adapter.
Piping Instructions
• Properly support suction and discharge piping to avoid strain on the pump.
• Use an opposing pipe wrench on suction and discharge bosses when threading pipes.
• The use of pipe thread sealant is recommended.
• Do not over-tighten piping connections.
Suction Line
1. Install a new, clean pipe or hose, making sure pip-
ing rises vertically or continually from the water
source to the pump inlet connection with no high
spots.
• To avoid air pockets, slope horizontal pipes con-
tinuously upward from water source to pump by
at least 1 vertical inch for every 30 inches of hor-
izontal run.
• The total suction lift should not exceed 25 ft of
head.
• Piping should never be smaller than the
pump inlet size of 1-1/4" (FNPT). Increase by
one size if a large distance is between the
pump and the water source.
• Avoid attaching an elbow directly to the
pump suction.
2. Install a foot valve to the end of the suction line
to ensure system remains filled during off peri-
ods.
3. If the distance from the well to the pump is more
than 40 ft, install a check valve close to the pump
NOTE: A check valve is necessary for pumping from a drive point well where the suction line is
driven into the ground to extract the surrounding groundwater. A foot valve is more suitable for a
cased/dug well.
