REMOVE FACTORY TOW HITCH / BUMPER SUPPORT
1.
Lower spare tire - using a flat head screwdriver or plastic trim tool, open plastic cover on rear of step bumper to expose the spare tire mechanism.
Use factory spare tire tool located inside vehicle cab to lower and/or temporarily remove the spare tire.
2.
Using a 15mm socket, remove the rear M10 bolt from spare tire cradle. Loosen only the forward cradle bolt. Rotate cradle to provide clearance for hitch installation.
3.
Temporarily remove spare tire plastic guide tube, Figure 2.
4.
Disconnect and unplug all wiring harnesses from factory tow hitch and step bumper. Use a pry tool to remove the wire harness plastic push-clips and cutter tool to cut cable
ties holding wire harnesses, Figure 3.
5.
Using a 21mm socket, remove vehicle step bumper by removing two (2) M14 bolts on each side of frame rails, holding bumper brackets, and (2) M14 Flange Hex Nuts facing
vehicle forward, from the factory tow hitch or bumper support. See Figure 1.
Save (4) bolts and (2) hex nuts for installation of new Tow Hitch.
NOTE: Be sure to support the bumper before removing bolts. An assistant to help remove step bumper and factory tow hitch is highly recommended.
6.
Remove factory tow hitch or bumper support by removing the four (4) M14 bolts from bottom of frame, 2 per side.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which
has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with safety
specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
