6. Now you need to score your cover to create creases
so it bends along those lines. For best results, you
should score on top of the image-side of the cover
in two places – at the spine edges of your book –
along with a third score near the spine on the front
cover to allow it to open more easily. (fi gure 19) The
unique design of the Powis Parker Scorer allows you
to determine the proper location of the scores on
your cover so your spine title is centered.
7. After scoring your cover make sure the spine scores
are the same distance apart as your book thickness.
Gently fold your cover into a book form at both
these scores (fi gure 19).
For cover binding using Perfectback™ LF and
PS strips only:
8a. Pick up your document from the cooling rack and
peel off the section of release paper from the front
of the spine (fi gure 20). This leaves a narrow adhesive
band exposed. (If the release paper doesn't come off
easily, the glue may still be too warm. Place it back in
the cooling rack for a few minutes, then try again.)
9a. With the back cover against a fl at surface, put
the document inside, with the back edge of the
document spine aligning to the back score of the
cover (fi gure 21).
10a. Fold your front cover tightly over the book block.
Then,
starting from the middle, rub back and forth to
secure the
cover to the adhesive strip beneath it. (fi gure 21).
11a. Flip the book over. Open the back cover and
remove the
remaining release paper (fi gure 22).
12a. Tightly pull the back cover over against the spine.
Rub back
and forth, starting from the middle, to bind the back
cover
to the adhesive beneath it.
13a. Trim the book edges as desired.
