6. Mark the date (month/year) of installation on the installation plate
supplied and glue it to the filter head (see Fig. 5).

6.5.2 Fitting the filter head

I
CAUTION!
f Under no circumstances may the filter head be under mains water pressure for a prolonged
period without a filter cartridge screwed on.
f The torque of the fittings must not exceed 15 Nm!
INFORMATION!
f Mounted in the filter head is an Aquastop that prevents water
from escaping if the check valve is open and no filter cartridge
is installed.
f The existing check valve must be closed before the filter cartridge
is removed.
Procedure:
1. Insert the filter head into the filter bracket.
2. Observe the correct direction of flow (see Fig. 6).
3. Mount hoses (observe the bending radii!) for the water intake and
outlet at the filter head.
4. Connect the water intake hose to the existing check valve in the
intake.
5. Connect the water outlet hose to the appliance.
6. Open the check valve and check the system for leaks.
7. Close the check valve.

Fitting a water meter

BWT recommends installing a water meter in the filter cartridge intake if the appliance, e.g. coffee
machine, does not have a meter which displays when a filter cartridge requires replacing. If a water
meter is installed, the filter cartridge's residual capacity can be determined at any time.
Procedure:
1. Read through the operating instructions for the water meter.
2. Fit the water meter to the filter head. Observe the direction of flow! Fit the display in the field of
vision. Program the water meter in line with the operating instructions and start it up.
3. Fit the water outlet hose to the water meter outlet.
4. Connect the water outlet hose to the appliance.
5. Open the check valve.
6. Check installation for leaks.

Determining filter capacity and setting the bypass

The bypass setting and the filter capacity are based on the carbonate hardness of the
drinking water and the usage of the filter cartridge.
Procedure:
1. The carbonate hardness can be requested from the water supplier
or established by means of a quick test (droplet test, Fig. 7). The
bypass setting can be selected based on the carbonate hardness
and its application. The typical filter capacities are shown
in Table 1–3 in Section 10.

2. There are four setting options for the bypass. The default bypass
setting is "2".
The bypass can be set by turning the cap on the filter head (see
Fig. 8). Turn the cap left or right until the mark displays the required
value and the cap snaps into place.
3. Once the bypass has been set, it can be fixed using the enclosed

warranty label.
INFORMATION!
f BWT recommends that the bestmax size and also the filter system capacity are selected so that
the filter is replaced regularly at 6 monthly intervals and no later than after 12 months.
f Please note that after a shutdown of 4 weeks or more, the filter cartridge must be
replaced by a new one.

Installing the filter cartridge

I
CAUTION!
f The bestmax filter cartridge may only be installed in a genuine BWT filter head.
f Work cleanly, avoid impurities on the filter system.
Procedure:
1. Take the filter cartridge from the packaging film and remove the
hygiene cap.
2. Before installing the filter cartridge, mark the installation date and
the replacement date (no later than 12 months) on the filter's rating

plate (see Fig. 9) or fill out the Service Pass that can be optionally
obtained (see Fig. 10) and fix to the filter head using the cable tie.
3. Turn the filter anticlockwise in the filter head (see Fig. 11).
4. Open the check valve.
5. During commissioning, the filter must be flushed and bled (see
Sections 6.8.1 to 6.8.3).
The minimum flushing volumes are stated in the table below.
Table: Minimum flushing volumes
bestmax Type
Flushing volume in litres
INFORMATION!
After a break in operation exceeding two days, the filter system must be flushed with
a minimum of 4–5 litres of water.

6.8.1 Flushing/bleeding via the appliance

If the downstream appliance (e.g. coffee machine) has a function for commissioning filter

cartridges, the filter system can be bled/flushed from the appliance. Observe the operating
instructions for the appliance.

INFORMATION!
Please do not route the water direct to the boiler when flushing the filter cartridge.
