Pre-filling inspections
Inspect the valve (Body, Flow selector knob (13), Gauge (14), quick-connect outlet (12), on/off valve (4), etc.).for
damage. If the valve or cap shows signs of external damage, do not use the cylinder and inform the owner in a
suitable manner that the valve cannot be used. For repairs and maintenance, read the related section of this
manual (see "REPAIRS THAT CAN BE MADE BY THE USER"). Check that the valve or entire cylinder/valve assembly
are not dirty; in this case, clean according to the instructions provided in the "CLEANING" section.
Check that the valve life cycle has not been exceeded referring to the Pergola coding system indicated on the
valve (See "PERIODIC INSPECTIONS"). During retesting of the cylinder (after 10 years), the valve must be replaced.
Check that filling port (7) is undamaged and clean.
Prior to the filling phase, remove the filling port cap (8) and check that O-ring is present inside this. If O-ring is
displaced, inspect for damage or breakage before repositioning.
If the O-ring is damaged or broken, replace with an O-ring furnished by Pergola s.r.l.
For replacement, do not use O-rings that have been discarded or which are soiled with grease and oil, damaged
or broken.

Filling
Always comply scrupulously with the prescriptions displayed at filling centres in accordance with procedures,
legal provisions or regulations issued by specific sector entities.
•
An adapter, furnished by Pergola s.r.l., is necessary for emptying and filling operations. The adapter, connected to the
filling port (7), de-activates the non-return device (15).
•
Before connecting the filling adapter, check that the filling port is clean and undamaged.
•
Do not over torque when connecting the filling adapter.
•
Turn the flow selector knob (13) to the "0" CLOSED position.
•
Completely open the on/off valve (4) turning the hand wheel in a counter clockwise direction (max. torque 3 Nm).
•
On completion, close the on/off valve turning the handwheel in a clockwise direction (max. torque 3Nm).
•
Remove the filling adapter and tighten the filling port plug (8) provided and check for any leaks.
Filling adapters not furnished by Pergola s.r.l. may damage the non-return valve and impair product safety.
The cylinders must be filled only with medical quality gases.
If the valve is used for medical gases within the European Community, only medical gases produced according
to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) requirements, specified in detail in the GMP guide of the European
Community and defined in Directive 2003/94 EEC, must be used.
When filling cylinders already in use and equipped with residual pressure device, check for residual pressure
prior to filling.
To verify residual pressure, connect the filling adaptor to the filling port and check gas delivery.
In the absence of residual pressure, remove the valve and return this to the manufacturer for inspection and
testing.
If residual pressure exceeds 20 bar, shown on the gauge (14), carry out the following procedure before fitting the
adapter:
-
Open the on/off valve (4).
-
Vent the valve, setting the flow selector knob (13) to maximum value.
Warning: failure to comply with the above procedure may damage the valve (filling port (7)) and the adapter.
10
Checks after filling
On completion of filling of the cylinder, check for any gas leaks using specific instruments: e.g. leak
detectors/sprays or other suitable systems such as measurement of pressure drop at the following points:
threaded attachment (1) for fastening of valve on the cylinder.
-
filling port (7)
-
gauge (14)
-
rupture disc (5) (if any)
-
port for quick-connect outlet (12).
