Testing
The full mask must be tested whenever it has been used, serviced or
repaired.
Test equipment and test accessories: Testor R 53 400, Adapter
R 53 344, Exhalation valve plug R 53 349.
Visual inspection of the speech diaphragm: Please refer to the
chapter on "Test and maintenance intervals". To replace the speech
diaphragm, see "Replacing the speech diaphragm or O-ring".
Visual inspection of exhalation valve: Remove the protective cap from
the mask connector, and pull out the valve disc. The valve disc and seat
must be clean and undamaged. Clean or replace if necessary. Moisten
valve disc with water and refit.
Check for leaks: Follow Instructions for Use of test equipment.
Moisten interior of softbody with water and fit mask on test head; see
"Putting on the mask". Inflate the test head until the softbody fits snugly
all round. Seal the facepiece connector with the adapter and produce a
vacuum of 10 mbar. The mask is deemed to be tight if the pressure
changes by no more than 1 mbar after 1 minute. If this is not the case:
Testing with sealed exhalation valve: Remove the exhalation valve
disc and press the exhalation valve plug firmly on to the seat until it
engages. Generate a negative pressure of 10 mbar. If the pressure
change after 1 minute is less than 1 mbar, remove the exhalation valve
plug, insert a new valve disc and repeat the leak test. If not:
Check for leaks underwater: Immerse test head with mask in water.
Produce an excess pressure of approx. 10 mbar and slowly rotate the
test head under the water surface. Any leaks are revealed by air
bubbles emerging from the test head. Remove the test head and mask
from the water and seal the leaks. Remove the exhalation valve plug and
fit the exhalation valve disc. Repeat the leak test.
After testing: Unscrew the adapter. Remove mask from test head and
dry if necessary. Replace protective cap so that it engages.
Special maintenance work
Replacing the visor: Grip the hexagonal nuts and unscrew the screws.
Prise the clamping frame apart with a screwdriver at the connecting
points, then pull it off to the top and bottom. Remove the support if
necessary; see "Replacing the facepiece connector". Detach the old
visor from its rubber frame and insert a new visor, first in the upper half
and then in the lower half of the rubber frame.
For masks approved for use in fire-fighting applications, only use visors
marked with the letter »F« (Fire service). The »F« is marked at the top of
the visor.
Insert the visor first in the upper and then in the lower part of the rubber
frame. The centre marks on the visor should be aligned with the seam
on the facepiece. Draw the rubber frame over the edge of the visor on
the right and left. Moisten the outside of the rubber frame and the inside
of the clamping frame with soap solution. Fit first the upper, then the
lower clamping frame. Fit the support if necessary. Screw the clamping
screws into the hexagonal nuts and tighten until the gap between the
clamp lobes is between 3 and 0.5 mm.
Masks with a plastic frame do not have the nuts or clamp lobes. In this
case, simply insert and tighten the clamping screws.
Replacing the facepiece connector: Draw the
inner mask out of the groove in the screw ring.
Prise open the clip with the aid of a screw-
driver. Remove the clip, sliding ring and
support. Draw the facepiece connector out of
the faceblank. Insert the speech diaphragm
and exhalation and inhalation valves into the
new mask connector, and fit the connector so
that the centre-marks of the mask connector
and facepiece blank line up. Slide the support
between the clip and sliding ring; attach it to
the lower clamping frame and align it.
Compress the nose on the clip with pliers
R 53 239 until the facepiece connector is
securely located in the faceblank. Fit the inner
mask.
Replacing the valve discs on the inner mask control valves: Pull out
the old valve disc towards the inside. Insert the stud of the new disc
into the hole from inside, and pull it towards the visor until the undercut
of the stud is visible. The valve discs should make even contact with the
inside surface.
Replacing the speech diaphragm and O-ring:
Draw the inner mask out of the groove in the
screw ring. Unscrew the screw ring with
socket wrench R 26 817. Turn the socket
wrench over and carefully insert it in the holes
of the grille, taking care not to damage the foil
on the diaphragm. Turn the speech diaphragm
to release it and remove it. Remove the O-ring
from the connector with seal extractor
R 21 519. Test the speech diaphragm and
O-ring and replace if necessary. Attach inner
mask.
Replacing the exhalation valve disc: see "Visual inspection of
exhalation valve". Refit the protective cap so that it engages.
Replacing the inhalation valve disc: Pull the inhalation valve out by its
tab. Remove the old valve disc and fit new disc. Press the inhalation
valve into the mask connector until it makes even contact all-round. The
valve disc must not be pinched. The disc must face inwards, and the
stems outwards.
Only use original Dräger parts.
Leakage tests must be repeated after maintenance work and/or
after replacing components.
Storage
Loosen the straps as far as possible (handle tab). Wipe visor with anti-
static cloth. Pack full mask in its bag or box and store it in a dry, dust-
free place where it is not deformed.
Storage temperature: –15 °C to 25 °C.
Keep out of direct sunlight and heat.
