PL-8 C OWNER'S MANUAL
ON/OFF ROCKER SWITCH:
Furman's
Classic
Series
15
amp
capacity
power
switch
is
specifically
designed
to
stand
up
to
the
enormous
high
inrush
current

demands
of
many
power
amplifiers.

When
the
top
por+on
of
the
switch
is
pressed
flush
with
the
panel,
power
is
present.
EXTREME VOLTAGE SHUTDOWN (EVS) INDICATOR:
The
Extreme
Voltage
LED
Indicator
is
normally
off.

It
is
located
to
the
lep
of
the
power
switch,
though
during
normal
use
it
will
NOT
be
lit.

The
Extreme
Voltage
indicator
monitors
a
hazard
common
in
the
entertainment,
remote
broadcast,
and
AV
contractor
industries:

wiring
faults.

For
example:
accidental
connec+on
to
208VAC
where
120VAC
is
expected,
or
an
open
series
neutral
from
a
208
to

240VAC
electrical
service.
The
Furman
EVS
circuit
senses
voltages
that
are
so
high
that
opera+on
would
be
impossible
and
shuts
the

power
down
before
damage
can
occur.

Upon
ini+ally
applying
power
to
the
PL‐8
C,
the
Extreme
Voltage
indicator
will
illuminate
to
a
bright
red
if
the
input
voltage
is
above

the
extreme
voltage
cutoff.

When
this
occurs,
power
will
not
be
applied
to
the
PL‐8
C's
outlets.
If
the
unit
has
been
opera+ng
with
an

acceptable
input
voltage
and
subsequently
that
voltage
exceeds
140V,
it
will
shut
off
power
to
the
outlets
and
the
Extreme
Voltage

LED
will
light.
NOTE:
If
the
mains
power
is
above
the
high
cutoff
voltage
and
has
caused
the
EVS
circuit
to
remove
power
from
the
PL‐8
C's
outlets,

it
cannot
restore
power
without
the
operator
manually
turning
the
unit
off,
then
on
again.

Avoid
turning
the
unit
back
on
without
first

checking
the
source
of
the
problem
and
changing
the
AC
source
(if
necessary).
PROTECTION OK INDICATOR:
Although
the
Furman
SMP
circuit
assures
virtually
maintenance‐free
protec+on
from
transient
voltage
spikes
and
surges,
nature
has
a

way
of
occasionally
crea+ng
electrical
forces
that
are
beyond
the
capabili+es
of
ANY
surge
suppression
device
to
absorb
without
some

degree
of
damage
(such
as
a
direct
lightning
hit
in
an
outdoor
applica+on).

In
the
rare
instance
that
this
occurs,
the
green
"Protec+on

OK"
LED
indicator
(located
to
the
right
of
the
retractable
light
tubes),
will
not
illuminate.

If
this
happens,
some
level
of
protec+on
from

voltage
surges
will
remain,
but
the
PL‐8
C's
clamping
voltage
ra+ng
will
be
compromised
and
the
unit
must
be
returned
to
Furman
for

service.

NOTE:
Furman's
Classic
Series
power
condi+oners
do
not
compensate
for
high
or
low
AC
line
voltage.
If
you
frequently
move
your

rack
to
different
loca+ons,
derive
power
from
generators,
use
very
long
extension
cords,
travel
interna+onally,
or
are
in
an
area
prone

to
brownouts,
you
may
benefit
from
the
use
of
one
of
Furman's
AC
Voltage
Regulators.
TROUBLESHOOTING
1.)
Symptom:

 No
power
to
the
AC
outlets.
Possible
Cause:

 The
circuit
breaker
(located
on
the
rear
panel
‐
adjacent
to
the
AC
inlet
cord)
has
tripped
due
to
excessive
load.
Ac<on
Needed:

 Unplug
one
piece
of
equipment
from
the
Furman
condi+oner
and
push
the
round
reset
tab
into
the
circuit
breaker

 bezel.
2.)
Symptom:

 No
power
to
the
AC
outlets,
"Protec+on
OK"
indicator
is
not
lit.
Possible
Cause:

 Either
the
AC
outlet
to
which
your
Furman
condi+oner
is
connected
has
no
AC
voltage
present,
or
the
protec+on

 circuitry
in
your
unit
has
been
compromised.
Ac<on
Needed:

 Plug
the
Furman
condi+oner
into
an
AC
receptacle
where
a
nominal
120
VAC
is
present.

If
the
problem
persists,

 contact
Furman
for
service.
3.)
Symptom:

 Extreme
Voltage
(EVS)
indicator
lit.
Possible
Cause:

 Input
voltage
is
above
140V
causing
power
to
the
unit's
outlets
to
be
shut
down.

Addi+onally,
if
the
voltage
is
below

 85V
–
90V
at
turn
on,
the
unit
will
not
allow
AC
voltage
to
reach
the
outlets.
Ac<on
Needed:

 Correct
the
line
voltage,
then
turn
the
Furman
condi+oner
on.
If
the
voltage
present
is
below
114
VAC
or
above
126

 VAC,
consider
installing
a
Furman
voltage
regulator.
