8. Commissioning the encoder
8.1 Connecting the connection wires
When connecting the connection wires, their correct functioning must be checked.
• Make sure that the supply voltage has been correctly applied. In the case of reverse polarity the
encoder will not function and no signals will be output.
• Check the communication of the SSI / BiSS interface. If the wiring is incorrect, no communication will
be possible. The data line must be terminated with a 120 ohm resistor.
• Check the correct application of the sine/cosine signals, the amplitude (signal height), polarity and
the phase position. If there is an error in the sine/cosine path, the function sin2 (x) + cos2 (x) = 1 will
not be fulfilled or the direction of rotation will be incorrect, for example due to the reversal of Sin and
Cos (incorrect phase position).
8.2 Operational readiness when switching on
After switching on the supply voltage, the sine/cosine signals are available immediately, however there
is a waiting time of approximately 150 ms before the encoder is ready for operation, i.e. before the
interfaces are ready to communicate. The encoder will communicate only after this time via the SSI or
BiSS interface.
