Wiring
Important wiring note:
Note that the displace-
ment measuring system
must be connected to
the potential compensation sys-
tem in accordance with the
specifications of DIN EN 60079-
14. The external connection for
the transducer is accomplished
by means of metallic conducting
installation in a grounded area.
The flange and housing are me-
chanically fixed together and
electrically identical, so that no
potential differences between
them can occur.
If no metallic conducting instal-
lation location can be assured,
the housing must be grounded
using the ground screw on the
cover.
The system and the control cabi-
net must be at the same ground
potential. A sufficient potential
compensation has to be provided
such that it does not flow through
the cable shield!
To ensure electromagnetic com-
patibility (EMC), which Balluff
verifies by the CE Marking, the
following points must be strictly
observed.
BTL transducer and processor /
controller must be connected
using shielded cable.
Shield: Copper-stranded mesh,
85 % coverage. The shield is
connected to the housing of the
transducer. It must be grounded
on the control side.
Unused leads can be tied to GND
on the control side, but they must
never be connected to the shield.
Refer to table 4-1 for wiring as-
signments.
The installed cable fitting
was tested with reduced
tensile force in accor-
dance with EN 60079-0.
This is why the connection cable
must be routed in a permanent
location and protected against
tension and rotary loads using an
additional clamp. It may not be
used with drag chains.

Fig. 4-1: BTL5-C/E...K... with processor/controller, wiring example
When routing the cable between the
transducer, controller and power
supply, avoid proximity to high volt-
age lines to prevent noise coupling.
Especially critical is inductive noise
caused by AC harmonics (e.g. from
phase-control devices), against
which the cable shield provides only
limited protection.
Length of signal transmission max.
20 m. Longer lengths may be used if
construction, shielding and routing
are such that external noise fields
will have no effect on signal integrity.

Caution:
➀
In addition to the grey 0 V wire
only one of the output signals
➂
may be connected, i.e. either the
yellow, pink, or green wire!
Note:
➁
Due to the seperate output
drivers a small voltage difference
(i.e. a constant offset of <10 mV)
appears between these two out-
put signals.
➂
