Spark plug service:

In order to service the spark plug, you will need a spark plug wrench. One is supplied with the
DPU31 and SPU16 power units. See specifications for the recommended spark plug. To ensure
proper engine operation, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits.
1. Turn the engine switch and fuel cap vent lever
to OFF position.
2. Remove the spark plug maintenance cover.
3. Remove the spark plug cap.
4. Clean any dirt from around the spark plug
base.
5. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the spark
plug.
6. Visually inspect the spark plug.
Discard it if the insulator is cracked,
chipped or fouled.
7. Measure the spark plug gap with a
wire-type feeler gauge. Correct the
gap, if necessary, by carefully
bending the side electrode. The gap
should be 0.024 – 0.028 in (0.60 –
0.70 mm)
8. Check that the spark plug sealing washer is in good condition, and thread the spark plug in by
hand to prevent cross-threading.
9. After the spark plug is seated, tighten with a spark plug wrench to compress the washer.
If installing a new spark plug, tighten ½ turn after the spark plug seats to compress the washer. If
re-installing a used spark plug, tighten ⅛ – ¼ turn after the spark plug seats to compress the
washer.
10. Reinstall the spark plug cap on the spark plug securely.
11. Reinstall the spark plug maintenance cover.
