TROUBLESHOOTING

GENERAL ________________________________________________________________

The troubleshooting chart below lists basic problems that may occur during start-up and operation. For more detailed
information regarding the hydraulic and electrical systems, contact your area Jacobsen dealer.
Symptoms
Engine will not start.
Engine hard to start or
runs poorly.
Engine stops.
Engine overheating.
Tines plugging.
Tines not penetrating
turf.
Tines not lifting high
enough.
Tines wont move.
Turf lifting.
Traction drive does not
engage.
Aerator drive does not
engage.
Oblong hole in turf.
Noise in cam case.
Possible Causes
1. Fuel tank empty or dirty.
2. Engine switch OFF.
1. Fuel level low. Fuel or fuel filter
dirty.
2. Air cleaner dirty.
3. Engine problem.
Fuel tank empty.
1. Air intake restricted.
2. Engine overload.
1. Dirty or corroded tines.
2. Burrs on tines.
3. Engine speed too slow.
4. Oversized tires.
Tines worn or plugged.
Low hydraulic fluid.
Bent pushrod.
Shallow rooted turf.
Traction drive idler cable out of
adjustment.
Aerator drive idler cable out of
adjustment.
Aerator out of timing.
Aerator out of timing.
TROUBLESHOOTING
1. Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter.
2. Turn engine switch ON.
1. Fill with fresh fuel. Clean or replace fuel filter.
2. Inspect and replace air filter.
3. Consult engine manual.
Fill with fresh fuel.
1. Clean cooling air intake.
2. Reduce forward speed.
1. Thoroughly clean tines and lightly water greens.
2. Remove burrs with file.
3. Operate aerator at higher engine speed.
4. See tire specifications.
Replace or clean tines.
Add hydraulic fluid. [See Section 7.7]
Replace pushrod.
Increase turf guard spring tension. [See Section 6.2]
Adjust cable. [See Section 6.4]
Adjust cable. [See Section 6.3]
Check timing. [See Section 6.3]
