Appendix - Encryption Key Loading

The TT8500 Secure Setup screen allows the secure entry of encryption keys
used in encrypting sensitive data. Encryption key loading is used at key loading
facilities, and not intended for customer use. Key loading mode is protected by
two passwords. Each of these passwords must be at least 6 characters long. No
one person should know both of the keys (so no one can compromise the
security of the encryption process). To enter Secure Setup:
1. Power up the TT8500. The message "Touch the Pad Now to Enter Setup"
appears on the screen for a few seconds. Touching the screen within this
time displays the Setup Menu.
2. Touch the Reset Options button.
3. Touch the Accept Reset button.
4. When you are returned to the main Setup menu, cycle power to the TT8500.
Power can be cycled by using the end of a straightened paper clip to push
the reset switch (to the left and below the stylus holder) on the back of the
unit.
The Secure Setup screen displays three buttons: Load Keys, Change Keys
Password, and Other Setup.
Load Keys
Press the Load Keys button to enter the key loading passwords and initiate the
encryption key loading software.
To enter new key loading passwords, use the touch pad to enter and confirm the
password A and B.
Note: If key loading passwords are already set in the TT8500, you will be
prompted to enter the passwords to enter the encryption key loading
screens.
Cancel, Clear, and Enter buttons are available at all times.
