Detecting an irregular heartbeat
An irregular heartbeat (arrythmia) is detected if the cardiac
rhythm fluctuates while the device is measuring systolic
and diastolic blood pressure. During each measurement
the device records the intervals between heartbeats and
calculates the mean interval value. If there are major irregu-
larities, the arrhythmia icon appears on the display screen.
'Major irregularities' are when two or more pulse intervals
occur in which the difference between these intervals and
the mean interval value deviates by more than ± 25 % from
the mean interval value, or when there are four or more
pulse intervals in which the difference between each inter-
val and the mean interval value deviates by more than ± 15
% from the mean interval value. In these cases, the icon for
arrhythmia will appear on the display screen.
PLEASE NOTE
The display icon "
" indicates that a pulse irregularity
consistent with an irregular heartbeat was detected during
measurement. Usually this is NOT a cause for concern.

However, if the symbol appears often, we recommend you
seek medical advice. Please note that the device does not
replace a cardiac examination, but serves to detect pulse
irregularities at an early stage.
