when frothing milk.
Manual Espresso Machine / User Manual
Cause
Coffee old or too dry.
Coffee not pushed down firmly
enough. Water pushes through
the coffee too fast.
Coffee too coarse.
Coffee blend not suited to
espresso coffee.
Tip of frothing wand (10) is
blocked.
Milk not fresh.
Milk not suitable.
Milk was too warm from the
start.
Not enough milk to froth.
Remedy
Use fresh coffee.
Tamp coffee grounds more firmly. Use a
finer grind.
Use a conical burr grinder to obtain a finer
and more consistent grind.
Change brand of espresso.
See chapter 8b, "Cleaning the Frothing
Wand". If frothing wand (10) is clear of
dried milk deposits, but no steam comes
out of the frothing wand, then decalcify
the frothing wand as described in chapter
8c. If the appliance is still blocked, call
Customer Service, see chapter 11.
Use fresh milk.
Use lower fat content dairy milk. Non-dairy
milk won't froth as
well.
Use milk straight from the refrigerator
(34°F).
Use more cold milk.
